Day 3 with Nomad travel trailer 21 feet. We are trying to use the 12 v water pump for the first time in a provincial park and the pump will not prime...we have a third of a tank of water. We are plugged into 15 amp electric. Everything is brand new. We don't want hot water just normal flow to the sinks and toilet...help...

Was your hw tank full when you setup camp?
If not the pump will fill hw tank before you'll get water at taps or toilet.
It may take 15 to 20 minutes to fill.

Thanks does that mean if we put more water in the tank it will prime? ...your right we probably didn't fill the tank up enough first time round.

Make sure you have your water valves set properly. In my coach I have one labeled "Tank to Pump" I have to set before the pump sees any water.

1/3 tank should be plenty to feed the pump, which is self-priming. Most likely some valve isn't set right, but I'm not familiar with the set-up on a Nomad trailer.

How do you fill the tank? Just stick a hose in a gravity feed port, or is it through a city water inlet of some sort? If the latter, there is usually a valve to turn to allow the pump to work after filling.

Step #1First thing to do is pull out the OWNERS manual.

Step #2 Now make sure you do a proper valve lineup. You are most likely still set in water heater by-pass mode from the winterization.

Step #3 Now does the pump actually run? you should be able to hear it running to fill the hot water tank.

Step #4 if not open a faucet with the power switch on and see if it works. It's a demand type of pump and won't come on unless there is a demand for it, ie an open faucet.

Step #5 If none of this helps refer to step #1.

My father in law bought a Nomad once and he had the same problem. He tried almost everything to get it to prime and when we went to visit he was about to give up. I looked at it and told him "just for giggles, lets reverse the wires, I wonder if the pump is pumping backwords"? There was only 2 wires on the pump, we reversed them and turned the pump on and had water instantly! The pump runs on DC current and if the wires are on incorrectly it evidently runs in reverse!

We have been off the grid for two weeks now. Thanks to all who made suggestions...we did get the water pump to prime but it seems to bang a lot when we use the sink taps...is there something we can do? Thanks

Yes you can place one of these to cut down noise.
You also should check to see if some of the water pipes a banging and you can also add flexible hose's off water pump pipe fittings to isolate the water pump vibrations.
