Water temp only gets warm not hot

I just saved a whole lot of money any headache because a few very kind fellow RV'rs posted a tip and I feel compelled to pass it on. If you suddenly find you are only getting warm water in all your taps consider this first. Check to see if taps on any of your outside shower or spray nozzles are on. If they are they act as a mixing valve and mix the cold and hot together for the whole coach. One clue for me that made me lean away from a hot water tank problem was that the hot line coming out of the back of the tank was very hot to the touch but water only warm. Hope this helps someone.

Had the same problem on my new-to-me 2005 Excursion. PO had left the outside shower faucets open. The RV does not have a mixing valve, and like you discovered, when I popped the relief valve on the water heater, the water was scalding hot. After searching the internet and many Rv forums, I found several references to "turn off the outside shower faucets" as they act like a mixing valve. PROBLEM SOLVED!
