I recently had both our Weather Pro awning arms twisted beyond repair by unexpected wind. I ordered new parts but need the following information if anyone still has their instructions: The front end of the roller has the motor, the rear has a spring that has to be tensioned before the arm is attached. How many times and in which direction (clockwise/counterclockwise) should it be turned before installing the arm? Appreciate any help.

I don't know how many turns it will take, but A&E is very protective of information involving the repair of anything about their awnings that involves the springs. They say it is for safety reasons, and they want you to take it to a dealer.

I called them once with a question about my motor (I didn't even mention wanting to take anything apart), and they wouldn't even answer my question. All they would do is give me the names of authorized repair centers.

I did repair a manual Sunsetter awning once. Sunsetter awnings are similar to RV awnings, but they are sold for installation on fixed houses. The number of turns was related to the length (weight) of the awning. We had a 20' awning, but I don't remember how many turns it was.

Good luck. Maybe someone out there can provide more information.

Awning, whether patio, door or window; front or rear arms are always wound by pulling down from the top and away from the coach. As to how many turns; length is need to answer this one.

Thanks; I agree that Dometic/A&E customer support is non-existent. If there was a comparable product with good support out there I'd trash what I have. RV Wizard - it's a 21 foot awning. Based on what I can find out about their other products, I'm guessing 8 clockwise turns. Sound reasonable?

Keith, I will have to look it up to be sure and my CD with this info is at work. It will be Monday before I can access it and then that evening before I can post it. If I am not mistaken, you will need to put 12 turns in a 21' awning.
