coachmanrvr: That looks like our fridge. Is it a Whirlpool? Does the compressor back up to the vented outside panel? Or is the fan providing the only air that it gets down there? Curious, \ken

It is a Whirlpool...there is no cooling around the unit as it is stuffed into the cabinet work around the fridge. It was suggested that heat played a role in it's demise...there fore we took the suggestion of others to install the extra cooling fan.

I notice there's a fair height of wood above your fridge. Any possibility that you can install a couple of vent registers there? Then the fridge would draw air at the bottom, the air would rise behind the fridge, then come across the top of the fridge and out the registers into the room. That's the way I set my fridge up. When the fridge is running, there's a fair warm breeze coming out of the upper register vents.

Well we have had our 99 for coming up on two years so not to many problems.

1. Fridge hinge broke before we left dealer they gave me a check, and repaired my self.

2. Sewer vent cover.

3. Ladder rusted out, repaired, self.

4. AC shroud blew off, replaced both.

5. Generator muffler end blew off, replace, self.

6. Bolt holding arm for wires on the slide fell off, replaced self.

7. AC fan motor started squealing, replaced, self.

8. Hinge for stove cover broke, replaced, self.

9. One of the draws, had the bottom coming out when I bought it, repaired self.

Not too bad, knock on wood.

Got a new-to-us MH in June and went on a 2-month trip with the Norcold fridge that was in it. We fully intended to put in a residential fridge, but didn't have time before our trip. The fridge worked great, so decided to wait until spring since we're just going to have 2 or 3 short trips until summer. We left two days ago for a 2-week trip to the N. GA mountains. Wouldn't you know it died that day. It's not worth trying to fix since we'll get the new fridge when we get home. We're now using an electric ice chest and ice in the freezer compartment as an ice chest - for 2 weeks!!!

Do you have a direct line to my wife, Mel? She is sitting here nagging me about the vacuum breaker that was leaking and had to be replaced 2 years ago. Oh, and she thinks restringing 2 of the day-nite shades counts as 2 more "brokens". . . So much for a perfect record. Still knocking on wood, though. Some of these lists others are posting scare the crap out of me!

Bruce

P.S. Hang the phone up, Mel.

I do have a few more, not the LAST, but they did break at one time or another over the life of us owning this beast.
  • Bedroom slide motor quit. Replaced free under ext warranty
  • Step motor quit. Replaced free under ext warranty
  • Bedroom TV quit. Replaced free under ext warranty
  • Splendide pump quit. Replaced free under ext warranty
  • Back up B/W monitor quit. Could've replaced free under ext warranty, but chose to upgrade to color & get an LCD monitor. Paid the difference between covered warranty one & color/LCD ~$200 parts & labor
  • Broke more awning arm latches than I can count (stupid pot-metal). All replaced free under ext warranty
  • Fried 1 set of coach batt's. Our mistake - garage breaker tripped & we didn't know it one winter. Phantom draws depleted them, they froze & split. Replaced 2 for ~$300
  • Inverter quit. Replaced for ~$250 parts & labor
I'm pretty sure we got our money out of the ext warranty we purchased when we bought the coach new. Now it's expired so we're on our own.

Not necessarily the last thing, but the big one was the differential in our KSDP. Just over $4500.

The "last" thing to fail was our NorCold 1200 4 door fridge. I suspect many will have this thread entry so I don't think a picture will help.

Currently replacing with a residential Kenmore unit, which is a $800 solution. Much less than fixing the Notocold. I'll add a picture when we get the residential unit installed.

I could add a couple of others like the converter failure/replacement and entry step motor/actuator replacement, but I won't!!

The 8.1L Vortec (Engine)

No actually it was the condenser fan on my "New" Advent air air conditioner, turns out it's a china bomb (It sure sounded like an explosion when the blades flew off) Got a US made replacement though, Turns out the fan is a standard size used by many companies.
