What's this?

Can somebody tell me what this is and does? I have a rubber pipe that feeds it that is split.

The hose is a vacuum line. The module looks to be part of the cruise control, maybe.

The module is a vacuum servo.

Where's the rubber pipe, the one on top would be a vac hose and the accordion looking hose is a seal to keep debris out.

I took the rubber pipe off as it was split. Put a new one on now. It runs to the rear of the engine to what looks like some kind of pump, then down to the gearbox?? That's why it had me confused.

Depending on the type of transmission , there is vacuum supplied to the shift modulator as well , and that may not be a pump your seeing but a vacuum reservoir . Could you post a picture of that too?

EDIT: Unless it's a diesel engine then, it may be a vacuum pump.
