When to turn on your H2O heater
Hi Folks
Silly question regarding when to turn on H20 Heater...
Do you turn on the H20 heater and leave it on the entire time your camping or do you turn it on as needed. My thought is I would need the hot water in the AM and PM. But not sure if I should start in the AM and get my use and then run it again in the PM.. Or if I should just leave it on the entire time, similar to what we use H2o heater in a house. Ii guess I am worried about propane useable and use on the H2o heater. What do you do?

once I turn mine on it stays on the entire time. I think you burn more turning it on and off then just keeping it hot. jmho on how I do it.

For my lifestyle and budget .......
FHU site just leave it on round the clock
Boondocking heat water once a day and do all warm water jobs at that time

I turn mine on when I need it usualy twice a day. I have found in the warm weather it stays warm almost all day so if I want hot water in the evening it doesn't take long to heat it up.

Depends on a few things.. If I'm burning propane, When needed. If Im paying for KWH, When needed, if the park pays all the time.
If it is freezing out, IT IS ON (And just now the ground is covered with heavenly dandruff so it's on) unless it's full of AIR not water.
I have seen what happens when they freeze.. Thankfully. It was not my problem when it happened (It also was not my water heater).

As noted, if you are hooked up and have an electric setting for the heater, leave it on. If not, turn it on when you need it. My RV tech assures me that leaving it on all the time when you do not need it, will use a lot more propane. To get a clue on this, if you are parked near someone who leaves it on, listen for how frequently it runs - you will be surprised.

I have mine on all the time. It is just one less thing to have to remember to turn on when needed. SWMBO wants a hot shower it is no time to remember ohhhh nooooooo forgot to flip the dang switch again................KJD

I only take my shower on Saturday! So I only turn in on an hour before I need it....

We turn on the AC side of the WH as soon as we get the shore power connected. Just before we get ready to take a shower we turn on the LPG side along with the AC so we can get a longer shower! After we finish showering we turn off the LPG. Works for us!

Now that we have elec it's always set to on. I'll turn it off when parked at home. When I had just gas I'd turn it on in the morning for as long as water was being used and then turn it off. Turn it back on around dinner time then back off at bed time.

Thank you all for ur input. I should of been more clear that I will be boondoggling. it is just the wife and I. We would like hot h20 in the am just for cleaning up dishes but in the PM for showers and the like. From the advise here I think I will run h20 heater in AM and then again in the PM. I think that will be the most efficient use for us. Thanks again for ur thoughts.
