This is probably a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. Is there any way to know where the wires are running in the walls of a motorhome? I would like to add a small shelf, like a window sill behind my sofa but would have to secure it with screws or something. I have always been sorta afraid to do anything with the walls because of not knowing what is behind them. I know others have done modifications to their coaches but we are a little shy to do anything.
Thanks for any suggestions you all might have.

I've never heard of any standard for this. Looks like you have an HR/Monaco product. Have you tried their tech support to see if they can help. If you do, you might post it for everyone's benefit :-).

MIke, you should be find at adding a shelf under the window behind couch. WIring is usually under coach, up refrigerator vent area, in cabinets above floor and in the roof. Good luck.

Depending on the coach manufacturer, most interior walls are made of 1/8" to 3/16" covered panel board. Behind the panel board is foam insulation and then the outside fiberglass, or in some cases aluminum.

Instead of just screws, you may need to use those secure screw mounts or some type of toggle to give the strength you need to keep from pulling out. When you drill the holes for these just drill a shallow hole through the panel only. Then you won't be going deep enough to hit any wires if by chance there are some wires in the wall.
