Which caulk to use?
Friends,
I recently made some caulk repairs on the roof and back of coach. The Dicor self leveling worked as expected on flat surface but the Dicor NON self leveling was very hard to work with on vertical surfaces (very sticky and difficult to smooth out). Any suggestions for a different brand of vertical caulk?
Best regards,
Dave

Spit on it. 😅
No really it will not stick to your fingers with spit but if you can't bring yourself to do that a cup of heavy soap and water about 2 table spoons of dish washing soap. And that will do it but believe it or not spit works the best.

The best luck I've had for smoothing all caulking is good ol' spit.
Geocell is an excellent caulk for sidewall work. I think Geocell 2300 and Geocell RV are two that are usually available at places like Camping World. Silkens make excellent caulk for sidewall work, also available at places like Camping World.

Flex Seal is good. If you are good you don't need to touch it after you apply it. It does take practice to do that however.

3M Body Seam Seal seems to work more smoothly than the Dicor lap sealant. Geocel Proflex RV is another nice one.

Thanks, I will check these out and practice my technique! I'm on the road and had to make some quick k repairs after a heavy rain.

The one thing I've learned about the Geocell caulk, it doesn't have a very long shelf life. I purchase what I need to use right now. I don't purchase to put on my shelf to use it sometime later on.

Whichever brand you choose, DO NOT use silicone-based sealants. Been there-done that_once, never again. I think some RV mfgrs use it because it's the cheapest caulk sold.
To make a smooth sealing job, I use the bowl of a plastic spoon, yes-dipped in soapy water first and at frequent intervals wipe it off with a rag, dip again, smooth the bead again.
Someone mentioned it already, but using too much is a common mistake. Then when you attempt to smooth out the bead you make a mess. I sneak up on it, I'll apply two coats per the directions if the first was not enough.
This reminds me, I still have to reseal the port side of the roof to sidewall overlap.
