We only drive separately if distance between campsites is less than 50 miles (hour drive) other wise we hook the toad up. Half the fun of traveling is sharing it with your partner in crime.

Less than 15 miles we drive seperately. More, she's in the MH with me.
I want 4 eyes watching out for idiots and directions in unfamiliar areas.
Wife's sister pulls a 28' 5er. She follows because we can sort of watch out for her.

Sometimes I tow the bassboat with the motorhome and my wife will follow in the 4x4 GMC Envoy. The perfect way to stay at the lakes is to have your boat and your car. You can stay for a couple of weeks, and do lots of things.

Hi Cloud Dancer,

I have thought of getting a boat at some stage. :-)

Short distance (less than 20 miles) wife drives the car behind the motorhome and she runs interference for lane changes. Longer than that, we tow,.

We have never done it, but will be this March when we will be taking a short trip with two legs, one two hours and the other 1 1/2 hours. Normally we rent or Uber when we get there. We don't tow because I like to be able to back up the beast in gas (not diesel) lines. We plan to have car behind.

On the interstate when we have a trailing vehicle it goes behind the slowest or most difficult to drive vehicle. The lead vehicle sets the pace as it has the most "issues." The trailing vehicle helps manage traffic for the lead vehicle. When the lead wants to change lanes, put on the turn signal and the trailing vehicle moves over first and holds back traffic for the lead vehicle.

If in unfamiliar areas, the nimble vehicle goes first and checks the route and lets the other vehicle know of issues. Low branches, low overpasses, difficult turns etc.

Hi Katie,

That's a great idea to have the lead vehicle indicate and have the filing vehicle then maneuver. :-)

Thanks,
If we're going within 75 miles of home or so one of us drives the car. The car will usually go on ahead and get checked in. Further than that, and we'll tow.
