Welcome
Terri
If it going to freeze and if you have toppers you will have to wait till it melts or you may rip the toppers off. If no toppers check if there is any ice build up on top before pulling in or you could rip the seals.

You don't have to worry about the freezing temps in and of themselves. It's snow, ice and water getting into your stuff. If there is accumulation of snow or ice, you have to be careful before pulling your slides in. It's best to clear everything and wait for it to thaw fully.
If you can't wait, clear it as best you as you can. Make sure to clear any snow/ice that collects in the track that the gears of your motor run in.

Sometimes water will pool on the slide topper. Last week as we were leaving Lake Pleasant, AZ, the water that pooled was frozen.
A big chunk of ice slide off the topper.
I always inspect the top of the topper before retracting the slide to see if there is water pooled. If there is, I re-level so the MH is tilting toward the drivers side, then retract the slide. With the MH tilted, and water on the topper will drian off to the outside, instead of coming inside..

Even a thin layer of ice (after scraping off some snow) on the slide top can cause problems. Luckily, this did not cause any serious damage but it sure freaked me out...
Personally, I would use hot water over de-icer if you have to be in a big hurry.

During our travels we have been in several snow/ice storms
Our slide outs do not have toppers.
Snow......I went up on roof and used a push broom to clear slide roofs
Ice....I went up on roof and used a running hose to melt/clear slide roofs
Several times !!
Then after retracting took a couple of towels and wiped down the sides and left towels on floor under slide corners.
Packed up and gone.

Holy crum. That would have more than freaked me out. I've never seen a picture like this. Can you go into a bit more detail as to what happened and how it happened. I would sure like to learn from you.

I left some snow on that slide out roof for a couple days. A couple freeze/thaw cycles left a rind of ice on the slide top under the snow. I cleared off the snow but left the thin crusty ice (less than 1/4"). When I closed the slide, that thin ice crust caught on the upper rubber scrapper gasket and the top of the slide didn't come in but the bottom did. I extended the slide after checking everything and it went back out as normal. I removed that thin ice crust and the slide worked right again.
Lesson #1: always sweep/shovel snow off as soon as it falls so ice cannot form on the slide roof.
Lesson #2: always check that the slide top is completely clean of everything before retracting.
Lesson #3: Newmar makes a very strong slide system!
One other thing I have found since then is flooring installers will do the same thing to access the floor under the slide by putting a 2x4 on the slide roof then retracting the slide to lift the floor.

Thanks so much for taking the time to further explain. I know you have saved me some heartache and I have a feeling many more people will benefit. I will be honest, I haven't given proper attention up to this point but I sure will from now on.

If you have a topper with a sag holding water it could freeze and slide will not go in. I’ve seen it happen several times to other campers.

If you suspect there will be freezing rain, snow or ice the morning you will depart, you are right retract the slide-room before going to bed. It may be inconvenient, but will be much appreciated when everyone else is dealing with the ice and snow on their slide roof.

Yup..
Just another reason to make sure that the coach is fully usable with the slides retracted before buying..

I'm having problems with the camper battery. I'm hooked up to 110 and the salesman button is on. But when i come back a week later, ( to crank generator) the battery is dead. I'm running a dehumidifier with the 110.
Thanks
