Windshield Protection - Any ideas??

I had my one piece windshield replaced at the end of Jan and need to have it replaced again due to another crack. Both times the stone, or whatever hit, was just above the bottom gasket causing a crack to reach the edge of the glass.

I know a stone can hit anywhere but I'd like to find something to protect the bottom portion, to a point about 6 to 10 inches above the gasket. I figure if a crack occurs above that point, I have a better chance of having it repaired before it reaches the edge. One thought I had was to apply a piece of 3M film, similar to what protects the paint. Anybody done this or have any suggestions as to what to use?

Editing after initial post: Just realized that whatever I use, the wipers would be travelling over this area so I need something that would not damage the wiper blades.

Before installing anything check the laws about it.

Thanks, I will.

I'd hope something clear wouldn't be a problem particularly since that area isn't visible from the drivers seat on my coach.
