Windshield Washer Motor Mystery

1999 Allegro Bus, the washer function did work. On our trip last month it did not work so I'm uncertain when or how the malfunction occurred. The mystery is, when I tested the pump motor my test light shows current at both of the terminals when the ignition switch is on. Pressing the washer button and testing at the same time has not been an option so I may need to get the wife out to assist.

My assumption is that one terminal should be a ground and the other a hot lead from the switch. How they could both now be hot and nothing is smoking remains a mystery to me.

Any ideas?

If both terminals of the washer motor are hot, then you don't have a ground connection. One side should be hot. The other side should be grounded and not have any voltage on it. When the circuit is open from the motor to ground, you will measure the same voltage on both terminals. Remove the wires on the motor. One will have voltage on it. The other one should be connected to ground. Follow it looking for relays, etc. that may be used to turn the motor on/off. Eventually it should be attached to ground at some point.

Thank you, I will follow the line. Relative to the ground, I did, after posting this, think about testing voltage on those two leads with them unhooked but the rain was coming down and the barn is about 400' away from the house...don't know why I was not thinking clearly of the ground factor.
