Hi,

I have a trip next weekend and was going to winterize after that.

Forecast is showing night time temps of 30f a few nights this week with day times 45-50F.

Should I winterize? Coach is at off site stoarge with no power so running the furnace is not an option.

i would at least try to drain all the water in the lines and hot water tank out..........open all low point drains, drain fresh water tank, drain hot water tank............and even after that, there will still be some water left in the system...............if you have a portable generator and an air compressor, you can get most of the water out...............you can always close up these systems and fill with fresh water when you are on the trip..............happy travels

If you have a few nights in the low 30s and daytime highs well above freezing - - you will be fine.

You need to worry when the day and night temps are at or below freezing.

Blowing out lines is quick w the right set up. Worth getting set up to do it. Small portable compressor, hose & quick connect ftgs let one person hook it up and then go open one outlet at a time. Don't exceed about 40 PSI or so to avoid any problems.

My Viair rv compressor is too powerful for the job but do have a car one I can use. I need to get a hose connection though.

Does it not have a regulator? I set my big compressor regulator to 40 psi and do everything from inside the coach. That way I don’t have to run back and forth to recharge the line every time I open and close a faucet.

regulators are cheap at harbor freight. but at 30 degrees a couple nights I wouldn't worry about it.

I use one of these to hook up the air to the water connection.

Then I drain the water heater and put the drain plug back in. Then turn on the air and set the regulator to about 40 psi and just go around and open every faucet until it just blows a mist out. The hot water tank acts as a a six gallon air tank and helps out since I just have a small pancake compressor that doesn't have a lot of capacity. Also don't forget the low point drains.

I agree the winterizing is not required for temps only at 30F. Especially with above freezing during the day. I even did not worry until temps got to below 25F. Never had any troubles.

Using air to blow out the lines is my preferred method as well. Quick, easy and no need to do any flushing of the lines next year when opening back up. I do put some of the RV antifreeze in all of the traps and some extra in the grey and black tanks for any water trapped in the traps or near the valves. The adapter linked above is all you need to go with your air compressor.

Next question is: if I am storing my 1999 Bounder in an unheated barn in Wisconsin, is blowing out the water lines good enough? Or, should I do the whole process with RV antifreeze?

It just screws into the city water connection where you would connect your water hose.

I always blow everything with air and then pump antifreeze through all the lines too. That's just how I do it and never had any trouble. Only takes a few gallons of antifreeze and a little bit of time and it gives me peace of mind. Others just blow with air only and also never have any issues.

I have been told you would need temps to be 5 to 7 degrees below freezing for 5 to 6 hrs to get close to a freeze hard enough to crack plastic So watch not the low temp but the number of degrees below freezing and the number of hrs
