Wolf Creek Pass 7-1/2% grade

Went over the pass about a month ago with toad attached. We were headed east from Mesa Verde. I worried about this for at least a week before. It wasn't that bad. I used the tow/haul feature together with cruise control (2013 Ford F53 chassis) and kept it between 50-55 mph without using much brake.

THIS is what I thought it would be like....

Cool video, emcee. The kid has some real talent, but he's in an activity that will employ natural selection to greatly limit his species! Just like those bat-wing flyers that died this summer attempting to fly thru a natural stone arch. Very small margin of error for a very bad outcome. Even if he survives a crash, I would be concerned about the camera vehicle running him over.

But yes, I've been over prolly 20 passes in Colorado. They are all do-able, just don't be in a hurry and do use your grade brakes.

Glad you had a chance to visit our wonderful state! Mesa Verde, Durango, Pagosa Springs then over Wolf Creek Pass is a wonderful route. Too bad you are not doing it again in late September when the aspen trees are in full color. It is spectacular!

Really hoping he does not breed before he joins the Darwin Award ranks.

It is one thing to do it as a stunt with the road closed but it is really foolhardy to do it on an open road. No matter what anyone says I would have a terrible time sleeping if he managed to paste himself on my grill.

We just came back to Texas (1 month too soon) from South Fork CO. We thoroughly enjoyed Creede, Lake City, Pagosa Springs and the area. There are many county maintained gravel roads that can get you off the beaten path quickly. The next time we do it we will not miss the Aspens turning as we will stay into the fall.

Last Sept we made the trip from Grand Junction up over the Million Dollar Highway to Durango, and then to Balloon Fiesta. Stayed a couple days in Silverton. 40' DP pulling an Odyssey. Great trip the trees were in all there glory.
