Today, an authorized Workhorse (W/H) repair facility replaced my instrument cluster. The new cluster was provided by Workhorse and I paid the 1-hour labor charge.
When I picked up the motorhome, I noted the cluster display background was bright orange in color with a smaller rectangular dark area in the middle of the display area where the characters are. When viewing the characters, it seems like you are viewing them through a dark transparent piece of tape. The characters are perfectly formed, but very hard to see through the darkened area. The bright orange background is all around the perimeter of the darkened area. I queried the Tech and he stated that I should consult with W/H about changing the brightness of the display.
Is it possible that the cluster comes from W/H with a protective film over the display that should be removed prior to installation?
It was late afternoon and being 65 miles from home, I wanted to beat the afternoon traffic, so I left.
I intend to pursue this issue with W/H Monday morning.
I have previously posted a similiar query on RV.Net, but nothing received yet that explains the "darkened" section.
I welcome your comments.

Drifterpilot: I'm linking your post to the Workhorse chassis forum down below, in hope of getting you more input.
Regarding your IP cluster, it is made by Actia, and we are hearing good things about the new ones with the orange background. I've not heard about the condidtion you describe, and I do not believe what you are experiencing is "normal". There are two buttons on the IP "mode" & "trip". Each button performs multiple tasks, and holding them both down simultaneously does other things.
I suggest you take some time playing with these buttons to learn what each will do. You will need to have the IGN key in "on" position, but do not need the motor running. Try holding down the "mode" button for at least 5 seconds to enter the next menu. There I think you will find a contrast adjustment. There may be another choice to adjust the font size. You may need to use the trip button to effect the changes, or scroll among the choices. Once you have a change the way you want it, wait and see if it "takes". Too many button pushes in too short a time may cause unwanted changes, so go slow.
Sorry I can't give you detailed steps to accomplish a particular task, but I encourage you to see what you can do. Good luck.
Here is a link to the Actia website: http://www.actiaus.com/ which shows their phone contact # to be 574-264-2373.

Were you wearing sunglasses during your drive? And if you were, are they polarized? When I wear my polarized sunglasses there is a dark spot in the LCD that disappears when I remove them.

Hello All,
I have an ongoing problem with my instrument cluster also. LCD display is "going away" once again. Blank lines through the display that make it almost impossible to see. It was replaced under warranty. And was rebooted as per recall.
Question for Drifterpilot...........How did you get them to replace the "cluster" (LOL) and just have to pay the labor? As you can see by my signature, I'm in the same year coach as you are. Warranty is long gone.......... Any help would be appreciated.
Merry Christmas to all!
Thank you,
Megawatt

Megawatt,
I had read at this forum and RV.Net that Workhorse was working with owners to take care of these instrument cluster problems. I just contacted the nearest Workhorse authorized facility and they did the rest. The dealer will contact Workhorse to get authorization. Workhorse will in most cases provide the cluster but not the labor.

wilanddij,
No, I do not wear sunglasses. The dark area on my cluster display is very noticeable any time of the day or night.
I will be calling Workhorse 1st thing Monday morning.

You need to adjust your display contrast. It's on the "settings" menu, I believe.

Following the advice of forum members and the detailed instructions posted by JDSR, I was able to access the instrument cluster menu and adjust the contrast. Worked great, I now have a bright orange background display.
Thank you to all.

That's what I really like about this forum...so much knowledge out there. All you have to do is ask! Sometimes, you don't even have to ask! As for me, I've involved myself in some real lame-brained situations with my RV and am quite thankful for some of the "bailouts" that I have received from IRV2 members. Thanks!
Bob

Done. Should help future "find" users. Thanks for your suggestion. ED
