I just bought an XM Radio SkyFi2 system. The antenna that came with the vehicle docking station has a magnetic base attached to a long wire. Will I get good reception if I mount the antenna near the windshield, or do I need some sort of roof mount?

We have XM Radio setup both in the motor home
and toad, what I did is buy the docking unit
for the car and then bought the docking system
that is used in the house. the inside antenna
works just fine and I just run it through the
stereo system in the motor home. I have used
the docking system for the car in the motor
home mounting the magnetic antenna on the hood
we have a class C motor home. Hope that helps.

Craig,
I have XM and mounted my antenna on the dash, about 10" in from the left window and it seems to work fine. I also stopped using the "tape" pickup to get the signal to the radio. I was listening to Ella Fitzgerald and there was a rasping sound coming from the speakers. It wasn't Ella Now I just tune to an unused FM station and it picks it up, perfect sound.

Initially I used 100 mile per hour tape to tape a 4" X 4" sheet of thin steel on my aluminum roof. This gave a place for the magnetic antenna to stick. The metal plate I used was actually the top to a household electrical junction box.
When I got my free home kit, I took that antenna and glued the base to the roof with some gorilla glue. It's been up there now for over a year with no problems.
I mounted the antenna on the roof because the satellite signal is somewhat directional. With the antenna inside the RV, the reception would not always work.

Craig,
Not sure of your setup but if you have a compartment above the passenger side (it often has the vcr/dvd player) there should be access to the metal framing of the MH. If so, mount the antenna there and run the wire down and behind the plastic corner piece.
