Zep wax, Now what?
Hi I cleaned and waxed my class A using the step 3 zep wax. It does a great job if done right. My new problem is that I'm about to clean my roof and need to know what cleaner to use that won't drop down the sides and ruin my new wax job. I know Lol Next time do the roof first. Anyone know of a good cleaner that won't harm the zep wax. Thanks Doug

Water and a soft brush will do wonders. Rinse the sides often.
Anything stronger than car wash soap will cut the wax.

We use Blue Coral car wash, not the wash and wax. It is safe for all paints and will not remove wax. Chuck

ZEP floor polish is a polymer coating, not a wax. Most cleaners that are safe for a rubber roof, car wash products and Simple Green will have little effect. A floor stripper or cleaner with ammonia will certainly remove the ZEP.
Previous RV, I used the ZEP polish and had no streaks on sidewalls after cleaning the roof with Simple Green. Try a small area to be sure.

keep spraying the walls with the hose as you wash the roof so nothing gets to dry on it.

you know I keep reading all these articles on cleaning roofs... I was sitting in a hotel in Vegas one afternoon and looking out the window I noticed that the roof on the Casino was an EPDM roof made from 20 ft wide material rolled across the roof and seamed...
I searched down one of the maintenance guys who confirmed that use a EPDM roof in a 60 mil thickness... about 2x's the thickness on a normal RV... they do nothing to clean it, and just let mother nature wash the dust and dirt off... they are VERY CAREFUL where they walk, and how they move across the roof... and have raised walkways to the chillers and other controls on the roof... where those machines meet the roof there is a second layer... like a pad glued down before the machine is set... so that vibration won't harm the roof...
My point here... they do nothing to service and maintain it other than basic sound steps to prevent damage... so why do we climb on our roofs and wash, clean and coat them... especially when the EPDM membrane is about 1/2 the thickness of commercial roof.... maybe is to just support all those chemicals the makers of the EMPD material want to sell..... and all the hype that goes with it...

I do it because the white top layer erodes and leaves ugly white streaks down the side of an rv that can be really difficult to get off.

just keep any products containing ammonia off it , it will remove ZEP almost as good as the stripper

EPDM comes in various mils including 45-50-60 and 80 and I'm sure there are other variations depending on if it is fleeced or just sheet EPDM Rubber which is what is commonly used ... As for cleaning, if EPDM it is not necessary but if white fiberglass then yes if you like but just plain old car wash soap and soft scrub brush and you'll do fine as for rinsing, wait until it rains, no just kidding, just flood roof after soap and do in sections with rinse water, it will be fine!
