'03 Liberty vs. '13 Unlimited

We have towed the DW's 2003 Jeep Liberty for the past 2 years. I looked the curb weight up online and it appears to be 2,540#. We purchased a 2013 Jeep unlimited Sahara last month (I got the hand me down Liberty). The curb weight on it is 4269#. I plan to set it up to pull behind the MH also.

I don't notice much of a change when I hook up the Liberty toad vs. not having it, I am just wondering if anyone has made a 1,700# jump in their toad and how noticeable the switch was. I suspect the biggest difference will be in braking.

I do have a brake buddy that I use. and my 1999 40 footer (330 HP 8.3 ISC Cummins) is usually maxed at the 31,000 GVWR.

I used to tow a 96 Grand that I think was in the 3200 pound range and switched to an 06 Commander that is around 4700. I really didn't notice any difference.

Went from an eenie weenie teenie tiny Saturn SL2 to a Wrangler Sport. Saw no difference....except being now able to go places to see wildlife and scenery the normal folk cannot.
No regrets.
Happy trails!

'03 Liberty

Odd that you have such a light-weight Liberty. My '03 Jeep Liberty weighs 4,120 lbs.

I went back to the website. It says 2,540.....................kg. Missed that this morning. Must have not had enough coffee yet. Yahoo motors lists max GVWR at 5600 and max payload at 1150. Subtracting the payload from GVWR should give me 4450 for curb weight then correct? If that is correct then the Sahara will be lighter than the Liberty.

The door stickers of both vehicles only give GVWR.

Thanks to all...I guess the bottom line is that there will not be a difference and I can go ahead and set it up to pull.

Just like our coaches the only real way to tell is take it and have it weighed. We had an '07 Sahara 4dr and it came in at 4470 at the local Co-Op scale. 3/4 tank and not much stuff in it, I did put on some 16" AEV Bridger wheels and the metric equivalent of 33" tires but I doubt if they were that much heavier than the 18" wheels and stock tires.

At any rate you're under hitch rating and the difference between the Liberty and Wrangler isn't that big a percentage of your overall load so have fun.

I agree the liberty is actually heavier than most would think. If theirs was that light maybe they had the 4banger 2x4 and not the 3.7 or Diesel 4X4.

My 2012 weighs in at 4300lbs. Actual as weighed weight not whatever the darn books say. Yes I subtracted my weight.

I pull a 2,200 lb Miata and a 4,000 lb Lexus.

I can tell the difference and prefer pulling the Miata.
