Purchased a new 07 Grand Vitara and the brakes have been very noisy, with squeeling sounds that are loudest just after a cold start. The noise lessens somewhat once I have been riding for 10 minutes, but on a hard brake the noise increases and sounds like its coming from the rear passenger area. Have taken it in twice to dealer (now out of business) and they have said the brakes are safe, its just the Suzuki brake pads and there is nothing they can do about it. Any ideas on how to lessen or eliminate this racket? Thanks

I have an 08 and no problem with brakes.
You may want to post this question on the Suzuki Forum at http://www.suzuki-forums.com/2g-2006-grand-vitara/

Update - took the car into a Suzuki service center in LA and they rotated the tires, inspected the brakes and after telling me that the screeching was common to the car and not much could be done, the car is squeek free! Not sure what happened, but we are keeping our fingers crossed. The inspection revealed 7mm left on front pads, and 3mm on rear pads after 16K miles. Is it normal for rear pads to wear out faster than front pads? Also, Suzuki forum suggested replacing metalic pads with ceramic ones in the future. Thanks for all your advice.

Sounds like surface rust on the rotors and pads or drums. We bought a brand new 2000 Grand Vitara, back in 2000 we have 55,000 miles, change the oil, filter every 2,000 miles, only put a set of front pads, a battery and not even a burnt light bulb........great little car .......
