I searched for info with little luck.
If no one comes on that has done the install, I would ask etrailer. They may be able to direct you very well.

I would suggest you check the owner's manual and read it closely. I don't believe the 97 model can be towed four down. I had the same model for a few years and the manual said to only tow it on a dolly BACKWARD!!

After doing that for a couple of years, I upgraded to a 2002 model that can be towed four down. I have towed it now for 40k miles with no issues.

We have a '97 Suzuki Sidekick, 4 dr, 4WD, automatic.

I believe the Geo Tracker and the Suzuki Sidekick are pretty much one in the same vehicle.

We've been towing ours behind our Class A, 4 wheels down with a Roadmaster towbar and brackets since we bought it a few years ago, no problem.

We owned and towed a 1995 Geo Tracker 2 Dr 4X4 for 16 years and 2 Motorhomes. Never a problem. Just sold it in January to upgrade to a Wrangler. Very reliable vehicle and makes a great Toad. We used a Blue Ox Baseplate and a Brake Buddy Aux. Brake Unit. Ours was a 5 Spd Manual. My Brother in Law towed a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick with an Automatic for over 10 years with no problems either. He had a Demco Baseplate. Good luck and enjoy!

I put blue ox on a 2003 tracker 4x4 auto tran. if I remember right I think I had o go to the 8 pound hammer but they went on and what a fun tow car , to bad my DW hated every ride in that car. the car weighs very little so it doesn't take much to attach it.

That is a great tow vehicle! I have owned 8 Suzuki's. Put the transfer case in neutral, unlock the hubs, turn on the ignition and go. i have a battery disconnect as well. If you are having trouble installing the baseplate, take it to any shop or bring it to my house and I will help you.

Tracker

Thanks for all the info, according to the manual I tow transfer case in natural trans in second gear as I have the 5 speed and hubs unlocked key on unlocked.

You'll love towing your Tracker. The procedure you reviewed is correct. Unlock hubs, transfer case neutral, trans in second gear, key to first position to unlock steering (radio off clock on radio will remain on but never had a problem with battery going dead after a full days tow). So light you have to look in the rear camera to make sure it is still there. Tows straight and true and fun to drive when you get there. Can't beat that!
