Cool 2002 Tacoma 4WD Toad

I'm the original owner of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma PU with a 4WD 5-speed manual shift tranny. I have maintained it well and it only has 30,000 miles on it. This truck has what I believe is known as a 'transfer case' because there is a manual shifter for 2WD or 4WD, high and low ranges. This shifter is separate from the other manual 5-speed shifter ... and of course there is a clutch pedal.

I'd like to tow it as a 4-wheel down toad with both shifters in neutral, but after reading many posts, I'm confused as to this possibility. Most of the posts relate to much later Tocoma years.

Any suggestions

Straight from the horse's (Toyota's) mouth: NO

Just in case you want to verify I didn't make this up, Google, "2002 toyota tacoma 4wd manual tow 4 down" (without quotes.) HTH.

Part of the problem is- while you have std. trans and transfer case-it has to do with the way they engage neutral Some manufacturers disengage at he input of the transfer case, others do it at the output. When they do it at the input end, it means your always spinning the gears inside the case, many times with no lube.

That's interesting. I always wondered why some manuals could be towed but not others. Now, I know. Thanks for the info.
