2003 CR-V Steering wheel lock
Asked Service Manager at Honda dealer ship to remove the steering lock, for towing.
He said that if one turns the ignition off, but does NOT remove the key, it will NOT lock. I thought that was wrong.
When I got home, I looked it up in the owners manual. It said that the steering wheel lock will lock "
WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION"
So, why then is everyone turning the key to Accessory, and having battery drain when on Acc.? According to manual and Service Manager, just turn the engine off, key to off, but do NOT REMOVE, and the steering wheels will NOT lock.

Have you tried to turn the key to off without putting it in Park? Acc is as far as you can go without being in Park which is of course where the key can be removed. Towing in Park however is hard on the tires. Makes them go flat. [emoji1]

On my Kia Soul, there is a small plug near the shift handle. If I pop it out, I can stick a small screwdriver in it and over ride the shift lock.
Learned that when the ignition switch locked up. I got it in neutral and drove the dolly out from under it. Try that with removable ramps !

No park on a manual transmission. This is a manual.

mpierce-
I suppose because the instructions on pages 224-5 of the 2003 CR-V owner's manual, "Towing Your Vehicle Behind a Motorhome," specifically say to leave the key in the ACC position, for both the manual- and automatic-equipped cars.

And page 87, first paragraph, last sentence, says "The anti-theft lock will lock the steering column when you remove the key", and the service manager says the same thing.
Conflicting info.
