2004 Ford Sport Trac neutral tow kit instructions

I just had the Ford factory Neutral Tow Kit installed by the local Ford dealer but the instruction sheet they put on my visor does not match the way it works on my car.

Can someone please help be get the sequence in the right order?

Here's what I think the service guy told me.
1. Start car in park with foot on brake
2. Push brake pedal.
3. Shift into neutral while pressing brake.
4. Shut off car
5.. Neutral Tow light will start blinking
6. Hold brake until light goes solid.

Leave car in neutral and tow.

I'm not sure about this....can someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
4WD switch is 2WD/4HI/4Low

Insert before step 5

Mine may be different but I have to press and hold the 4X4 button until the light blinks 5 times then stays on solid.

JOC1212. What you listed is the same instructions for my 04. On my 04, the 2H-4H-4L is a rotary dial. Other models and I believe later model Sport Tracs had a push button which required holding the 4H button.

Have a 03 explorer and have to hold brake and 4hi button till light blinks and stays on and you are good to go. then when you want it back in just crank push brake and put in to drive.

Explorer

PooBear- does the battery die on your explorer when towing. Any special instructions when towing, need to run charge line to battery?

We have an 08 Sport Trac with neutral tow kit and here’s our procedure;

- Start car in park with brake on

- Shift into neutral with brake still on

- Shut off car, foot off brake, neutral tow light blinks once

- Press 4H button and hold for 1-2 seconds, neutral tow light will blink 9 times then remain on

- Good to go other than safety check stuff

We’re presently on the road right now from Vancouver Canada to San Diego and the weather has been abnormally wet and dark for this time of the year and our battery has been dead twice. When we tow in good weather we never have issues with the truck battery, so I’m chalking it up to lousy weather and some low light sensor coming on or braking too much with the weather in the mountain passes. If someone has an easy quick and easy way to run a charge line from the motorhome to the truck I’m all ears.

Tow

When you stop are you able to run the car to charge it a bit without messing up the neutral tow setting?

Not that I'm aware of, I use separate shut down procedure in order to disengage the neutral tow and start the engine.

We normally do 4-7 hour runs without stopping unless we need fuel or the dog needs to pee.

I have a 2009 sport trac and go through the procedure to neutral with tow kit. Does everything correctly but light goes out after about a minute. I take it this is not correct and light has to stay on??
