2008 Explorer Not Going Into Neutral

I have just had my computer flashed to enable the neutral tow function and installed an LED in the system to monitor it but it does not seem to be working.
I did a similar installation on my 2003 Explorer and it worked fine.

I connected the LED to the wires going to the small green plug taped up under the instrument panel. I see that the LED comes on very dim as soon as I start the vehicle but does go out after a while. When I try to put the transfer case into neutral, I do the normal procedure, engine running, transmission neutral, ignition off and then brake and 4X4 at the same time. When I turn the engine off the LED goes bright for a second so I know I am connected to the correct circuit but it does not flash after I hold the brake and the 4X4 button like it should, and I do not hear any movement of the transmission servo. The transfer case does work in all functions. I was hoping to get away for the weekend.

Sounds like you're doing every thing right, did the Ford tech check it after he reprogrammed it. The first time they tried to program mine it didn't work and had to do it again.

It seems to me that the setup for 2007 or 2006 and later is different than earlier models. I think it's because the transmission selector is between the seats as opposed to being on the steering column. I seem to remember that in addition to the indicator light there's also a part that is installed inside the selector box between the seats.
My 2003 was quick and easy, works flawlessly but the later models are more complex.

Do you shut engine off before you press brake and 4wd button?

We are all assuming the 2008 procedure is the same as the 2003 --
I just had the NTK and the programming done a month ago on my 2004 Explorer and have had no issues.
I would verify the procedure and then have the dealer check the programming.

I had a 2004 Explorer and then a 2008. Install of the NTK was different with the 2008 and yes the tech installed some sort of gizmo in the center console near the shifter. He then used a laptop PC to program the system. It worked flawlessly for 4 years.

I broke down and purchased the kit from Ford. It included a micro switch that I had to install on the gearshift lever under the center console. The system works fine now.
