2009 Jeep Liberty Sport How to hook it up?

So I bought the 2009 Liberty. Now I need someone to make me unstupid. It is completly different from my 1995. Everything is electronic and when I asked the dealer all they said was you have to disconnect the Battery to disable the Electronic Stability Program. I sure don't want to distroy something. And I figure there ain't no better place to look for answers than here.

Congrats on the new toad.

I can't help you with the details of towing your Liberty, but the first place I would look is in the owner's manual. There should be a section on recreational towing. I have read recently about the new stability systems causing tracking problems when towing, so it would make sense it may have to be disabled.

The owners manual for the 2008 liberty is real clear on the steps to take for towing.

I had the blue ox base plate installed, and aventa bar,,,,a test tow was nice.

I am still looking at braking systems.

I believe the 2009 will be the same as the 2008 for towing. But again,,,the owners manual is the bible for me.

I also installed a battery disconnect,,,not a hassle to disconnect when setting up to tow.

A lot of folks have indicated that they don't disconnect the battery, and have not had any negative impact.

Do what the owner manual says. If that includes disconnecting the battery, get a disconnect switch installed, preferably one of the remote control ones such as the Battery Brain Gold model.

Depending on what you use for a aux (toad) brake system, you may also need to install a power outlet that is connected direct to the battery, bypassing the disconnect. Some aux units need 12v power, e.g. Brake Buddy.
