I was thinking of buying and 4 wheel down towing a 2010 Equinox. All models are 6 speed automatic transmissions.
Chevy customer service email response said they did not know if it was dingy towable, and that I should contact a local dealer.
Local Augusta, Ga Chevy salesman said it is not towable behind a motorhome.
Has anyone got a different response from Chevy or their local sales people?

According to the 2009 Towing Guide in Motorhome magazine, the 2009 Equinox Sport with auto transmission is the only model towable 4-down in both 2WD and AWD versions. Would assume the 2010 would also be towable, but best to double check. The magazine's 2010 Towing Guide doesn't come out til early next year.

We just purchased a 2010 front wheel drive Equinox and the manual addresses the four down towing feature of this vehicle. The only thing they recommend is the removal of one fuse to avoid draining the battery. We have only driven her 500 miles and are very impressed with the fit and finish as well as the performance of the new 4 cyl. engine. Hope this helps. By the way, the base plate for the 2009/2010 Equinox is not yet available.

The best answer will be found in the Owner's manual. If it's towable wheels down the directions for setting it up will be found in the Owner's manual. Our HHR can only be towed wheels down or trailered because of it's low ground clearance. Ask the dealer to see the owner's manual and read it for yourself. It's usually not in the car until delivery.

The owners manual will tell for any GM vehicle. It will be listed under "Recreational Towing".
At least some models of Equinox are towable in 2009-2010. Older model Equinoxes were not.

Demco lists a baseplate for the Equinox.
Blue Ox and Roadmaster do not.

As per the owners manual, In 2010, the only automatic is a 6 speed and both the FWD or AWD are towable 4 down. Fit and finish is also very nice.
Regards

The 2010 Equinox is a completely different vehicle from the 2009. The 2010 Equinox is essentially the same vehicle as the 2008-2010 Saturn Vue. In 2009, only the Sport model of the Equinox was towable.
As others have said, check the owners manual. Look for the section called "Recreational Towing." Stop at a showroom, look in the glove compartment. If the manual isn't there, ask a salesman to see one before you buy.

Thanks for the responses. Heading back to dealer to look at the manual in the glove box, instead of beleiving the salesman. Looking at the 2009 specs, the SC or sport model is the only one for 2009 that used the 6 speed automatic. All 2010 use the 6 speed automatic.

'Ranger Rick', let me know how the Demco base plate suggested by 'Route 66' works out. They list the 2010 version with different demensions than the 2009 version.

I allmost bought a 2010 Equinox but when I called Blue ox, they told me at least one month before the 2010 base plates are on the market, Roadmaster told me 3 to 4 months....Bruce

When I bought my Acadia there were no base plates for it, but I made arrangements with Blue Ox to be the guinea pig for the new base plates. As it turned out, they got their hands on the Saturn Outlook, sister to the Acadia, and the prototype they built for the Outlook worked with very minor mods on the Acadia. Just had to bend the safety chain tabs down 1/2". I got a free tow bar and base plates for my participation.

I went back to the Chevy dealer to look at the manual for the 2010 Equinox for details on dingy towing, they sold the 8 that they had. I will have to wait a week or so before they get more in stock.
Gary interesting about being the guinea pig for the new base plate. My present dingy has been a 1991 Saturn since new, it still works fine, but I am concerned about its future reliability. Per "Route 66" response, Demco company lists the 2010 Equinox on their tow components availabilty list.

just looked at the equinox manual...
it says it is 4 down towable. 65 speed limit, no mileage limit, leave in N, leave key in acc position, pull 5 amp fuse located on the right side of the center console (similar to 08+ vue, though the vue is a 2 amp fuse). to drive, turn key off, reinstall fuse, start and run for 3 minutes prior to moving...
