Folks,

I looked through the thread and did not really see an answer to this question. I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler that I just installed the blue ox baseplate and cooltech harness and battery disconnect. The Jeep maual says to disconnect the battery for flat towing. The Roadmaster uses 12V DC power and with the battery disconnect I have no juice in the Jeep to run the Even brake.

Question is how do I do it? Run another wire from the MH (hot) to a fixture that will allow Even brake to plug in, put extra battery in the jeep for this purpose, or something else.

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks

No need to disconnect battery on a 2011. The reason for battery disconnect on the 2007+8 models was because the key had to be in position "1" to deactivate the steering lock. Yours has no steering lock, therefore no need for batt discon.

We had a 2010 Wrangler with the same setup as yours. If you open the fuse box, there is a large fuse with a yellow bracket around it. If you pull up on this fuse it disconnects everything but the 12 volt power outlet. By disconnecting this fuse you minimize battery draw.

TowDaddy make an autofuse that automatically disconnects that ignition power fuse circvuit every time you plug your toad's lighting umbilical into the RV.

However, you don't need to. The reason to kill power is so that the ignition doesn't drain the battery whenever a key is inserted into the column. But a 2011 doesn't have a locking steering wheel so there is no need to insert a key. Just hook up your tow bar and slip the transfer case into neutral and you are all set. I believe the last year for the locking steering wheel on the Wrangler was 2008, if I recall.

The owners manual has never been changed and is in error.

If you need juice to power the braking system I would run a charge line from the RV to the Jeep. Trik-L-Start makes a Toad Charge system that simplifies that and you can get it at RVupgrades.com.
