[QUOTE=Wayne M;2637936]Hello Texas Boomer, hope you and Ms. M are doing fine. Have you had any adverse affect with the computer system when disconnecting the negative battery cable? Thanks.

I did have the battery replaced last year. I'm surprised that it would happen again so soon. I'll check into it. Thanks.

I'm seriously considering that option. Any links you have on the product would be helpful.

Ken, DW has requested that we stop every two hours and stretch the legs and this last "leg" of the trip we did that and I would start the car, let it run for 5 minutes, then I would go through the shifting procedure and off we went. No problems starting it each time and at the end of the trip. I have left it in N overnight not thinking tha twould have any consequence but now that you mention it I think I'll revise that process.

I'm still going to try and talk to a Lincoln Engineer to find out why it has to be in the accessories position to tow.

Thanks all, and keep the information coming.
I put it in N and only hit the off button once and I do not have a problem I do not put it accessory mode.

Ken

When I bought my RViBrake setup I bought that same charger. It works…

Several of us have thought about towing our MKX in "Off" mode and I have talked to a Lincoln service manager and he thought it should be fine but just afraid something might need some power that I am not aware of.

Do you mind sharing how many miles you estimate you have towed the MKX in the "OFF" position.

Thanks
Bob

I have that dumb mental attitude that the book says to do it one way, not wanting to take the chance of doing it the other way. I'm also interested in how many miles. I think I'm going to still check with a Ford engineer if I can contact one. There is nothing like first hand experience like you have. Besides I have bumper to bumper maintenance/warranty.

I know that if you leave it in the "on" position the odometer will accrue miles. Made the mistake of thinking it was in ACC mode, but it was in the Run mode. My first clue something wasn't quite right...upon arrival the average mpg display had gone to 90 mpg.
Also looking to find out if it can be towed in the off mode.
Used to have a trailblazer as a Toad. Manual said to pull a certain fuse. Never did and never had a problem.

I have towed this to Florida and back from Welland Ontario which is close to Niagara Falls I put on approx. 3000 Mi . I would be interested in hearing what the Lincoln service manger says on what would come on when in accessory mode

I have more of a concern useing the brake buddy I think it does nothing more than ware the brakes out on the vechicle unnecessary a 3000 LB vehicle is not going to stop a 20,000 LB vehicle or help to slow it down the only reason I use it because it is law in certain States and provinces in Canada.

My Bad
I didn't use good English, in that I meant to say that "I was concerned that something needed to be powered up while being towed."

The Service Manager pretty much agreed with you in that he did not know of anything that would need the acc mode on and it would probably be fine towing in the off position.

I really think the acc mode is simply left over from the "Key" systems that needed the acc mode on to unlock the steering wheel and the keyless vehicles seem to all have the steering wheel unlocked in the off mode also.

Sorry for any confusion

Besides the law, having a breaking system on the TOAD is 3000 pounds less that the RV has to stop on its own. The braking system on the TOAD reduces that pushing load considerably. I use the Air Force 1 breaking system.

Thanks to all for the information. Keep it coming.

Edited: Okay, I called ford cooperate support and spoke with Michelle. She is going to research why the 2013 Lincoln MKX has to be in the ACC mode with her technical people. She already indicated that what the manual states is the way they tested it so this should be interesting. My bet is that the reply will be that - we'll see.

Thanks Wayne.
I will add that my brake is an invaluable tool in a panic stop situation. Wouldn't tow without it.
