2014 focus tow set up

We have a 2014 Ford Focus SE, not with a smart key, automatic (or more properly a dual automatic clutch manual). The owners manual gives a very easy setup to get the tranny into neutral. The only thing not mentioned is whether or not the key is to be removed after everything else is done. Since the battery is disconnected at that point, I suspect it does not matter. But suspecting and actually knowing, well let's just say I would rather know.....

As the transmission shift lever remains in the "N" position to tow you can not remove the key. You also need to lock the vehicle before disconnecting the ground wire from the battery post. Our 2012 does not have any way to manually lock or unlock the vehicle. The manual does not say to return the shift lever to park before towing. Probably something I should ask Ford.

yes, my 14' Fiesta works perfect as a tow vehicle, we just use our battery disconnect after hookup and then remove the key. your platform is the same.

You are probably fine for towing purposes to leave the key in when the battery is disconnected except for needing a second key if you want to lock the drivers door (it is the only door you can lock with out power). The ignition switch may not be the best place to leave a key for security purposes with the car unlocked. My 2012 can have the key removed from the switch after the battery is disconnected. Before the battery is disconnected you can turn the ignition to the off position but it won't release the key from the switch. After the battery is disconnected it comes right out.
