That is not necessary. In the instructions for flat towing in the manual it states:
13. Sift the transmission into PARK, turn the engine OFF and remove the key fob.
Seems very clear to me.

I was just explaining how to self-check position of the key on ANY vehicle. It's not rocket science, easy to check.

IMO it is much more appropriate to READ the manual and follow the manufacturer's instruction than to worry about something that doesn't exist on a Cherokee (steering wheel lock).

Has anyone found a manufacturer that offers a plug-in wiring harness yet for the Cherokee? We picked up our 2014 limited 2weeks ago and are very happy with it. Going to have the BlueOx baseplate installed but have only found diode kits that you have to splice in.

I have towed mine 8 times with the Demco light system they installed at the factory
No problems
Just found some paperwork from Demco
They installed
Demco Diode Tail Light Kit
They have notes on page 7 of the install manual which tells me that the conductor cable was for a 4 wire systems and driver side routing

If your taillights have room for another bulb, sockets, LED bulbs, and a roll or two of wire is WAY cheaper. I did it that way. I used a HF trailer harness that was less than $10 on sale. The cost of everything was less than a couple of diodes, let alone one of the above referenced 'kits.' DIY

I agree, read the manual, but the OP said his "manual does not specify." I was suggesting how to figure it out.

That's the problem. The Jeep Cherokees do not have the necessary space in the tail light assembly for a separate bulb kit. I'm hoping Tow Daddy will eventually come through.

I ordered roadmaster 4 pk diode (not kit) bought wire and spent $65 on Curt Mfg trailer tow wire kit that I used to build my own wire harness so I didn't have to splice into factory wires. Worked great, but cost a little more.

curtellisjr....Would you mind sharing the part # for the wiring kit you bought from Curt Manufacturing. I noticed that they have a plug in kit specifically for the Cherokee but it shows it is $93 plus you still have to buy the diodes. Not unreasonable but curious how you did it.

I would presume that leasing a Cherokee would preclude being able to modify it for a baseplate and diode kit? Anyone ask a dealer about that?

As you could not put the vehicle back to origional - I would think not as you have to cut out some of the grill for the base plates.
