2014 Jeep Cherokee Overland

I live in Spring, Tx and my wife and I have been RVing for 5 years. Our first purchase was a tag along and after a couple of years we upgraded to a fifth wheel. We are now purchasing a 40' Fleetwood Revolution Le. I am trying to get a tow car outfitted for our first trip. I am looking at a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Overland. The dealer tells me that the Jeep is towable. I cannot find anyone that has converted this vehicle. I also need expert advice on the tow equipment that I should use. The Jeep curb weight is just under 5000 lbs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have a '14 Overland on order. Should arrive in about a week. We'll be installing the Blue Ox base plate. Our installer says he's already done over a dozen of the '14 JGCs already. They all take the same baseplate, except the SRT.

We'll be using it with our existing Blue Ox Adventa LX tow bar, which is rated for 10,000#. I would not use a 5,000# tow bar with the JGC.

Make sure you get the right transmission on the Jeep. It must be a 4x4, either the Quadra-Trac II or the Quadra-Drive II, to flat tow.

We'll also be installing the SMI Air Force One brake system, which we've used in three previous toads. I really like it, I think it's one of the best if you have a coach with air brakes and you're looking for a permanently installed system (not a brake-in-a-box system).

If you have any other questions, let me know. I'll be able to post pictures of the install in a few weeks.

Hi folks! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the bunch!

Congrats on the new rig! Hope you enjoy the forum!

Can't answer your question about the Jeep. I would recommend the ReadyBrute Elite towbars with built-in ReadyBrake system. It will tow up to 8000 lbs. and is less cost than anything else I know of in it's class. The ReadyBrake system is simple, easy to install, and effective.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Welcome and glad to meet you!

I have heard that Chrysler changed the Jeeps for 2014. Many of the models formerly flat towable are only so in the 2014 versions with the high end transmissions. The other transmissions do not have a transfer case that can be shifted to neutral. Bummer!

You can read the 2014 GC owners manual on-line at the Jeep.com website. Pages 534 - 541 clearly take you through the steps on getting your GC ready for towing. 2WD flat tow is NOT allowed. 4WD with Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive II is OK to flat tow.

Please clarify: Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. There is a vast difference.

We're towing a '14 Grand Cherokee Overland. With Quadra Drive II and the Quadra Lift suspension. Blue Ox tow bar and Unified Tow Brake.

So far this season we've pulled it 2000 miles without a single issue.

Yes it's a diesel, no it doesn't record towed miles.

Also have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Summit diesel set up with Blue Ox and Air Force One. Love it. 11,000 miles on Jeep plus 4,000 towing. Works great.
