2015 F150 - Accessory Powerpoint Issue

Good Evening,

Need help flat towing a 2015 F150.

We have a 2015 F150 SuperCrew XLT and we have it set to flat tow, one issue that I have is that the 2 accessory power points on the dash power off about 20 mins after we start out. So that means that my Patriot brake controller runs fine until it loses power.

FORD calls for the key to be turned all the way back after neutral tow mode is enabled, obviously the steering column doesn't lock but my power points don't stay powered.

Our 2013 F150 didn't do this......

Any suggestions?

You could wire in an extra power port and run wire to the charge wire on the RV 7-wire plug, maybe. Or run the wire directly to the F-150 battery with an inline fuse.

I would defiantly run a charge line from the coach chassis battery to the truck battery with a 20 amp self setting breaker on each end, my 2013 F150 owners manual warns that the truck could shift out of the tow mode if the battery goes dead . With the toad brake system you use you are using the truck battery every time you use the brakes it lights the truck brake lights and can deplete your battery on a long tow.

Adding a charge line to the F150 battery solves most of your problems. Both RVi and ISL Products (Toad Charge) make charging devices. Wire a new 12v power point that taps off the battery and you are all set. Battery stays charged, braking system works. Everyone is happy.

His problem is not keeping his battery charged, it is keeping the power port hot, to run his Patriot braking system. I would check with eTrailer. I know they make a bypass relay to prevent the brake lights from working with the key off. They may also make one to keep the power ports hot with the key off.

I always hated when we rented cars (foreign and some domestics) where the ports were dead with key off. Sorry to see that Ford is following suit. If my truck was not a 2014, I would be having the same issue as you.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

To start I am going to run a dedicated line with a fuse from the battery. That will keep me going in the short term.

I think later I will add a charge line from the coach and then I will be covered for longer trips.

Again thanks
Adam

Adam - had the same problem with our 2015 F-150 and ended up doing what you are. Just ran fused line from the battery to a new power port. Installed the power port on the tunnel above the gas pedal. It's out of the way and you don't really see it. We have not had any batter issues using a Blue Ox Patriot brake system.

Good Luck
Mike
