2015 Ford Edge

I have heard a ugly rumor that the new 2015 is, as of recent, declared by Ford to NOT be towable. Any insights.?

Not sure about the 2015. I just bought the 2016 edge and the owners manual said it was tow able. I'm not sure if a base plate for it is available yet

Where did you hear this? There was a posting on RV.net that said that they had rescinded towing approval for the 2016 Lincoln MKX. Yet I had a chat session on Lincoln's web site in which the Lincoln "Concierge" said that it is towable. And the owners manual for both the MKX and the Edge says towing okay.

I wish we could get some trustworthy info on this issue.

Installed blueox base plate. No issues. Elec is another issue. I will let you know the easy way I met the need if interested. The word, as of today, is the 2016 Lincoln MKX is NOT towable because of transmission. The 2015 Edge is the same transmission. That is the extent of my knowledge. Ford is not responding to my question.

Ford/Lincoln owners should read Ford"s "Hotline Assistance Request 109128356" to decipher response to whether 6F35 and 6F50/55 (?) transmissions are towable. Witch Ford/Lincoln cars (ALL YEARS) are towable? Ford -- how about a definitive response! "The owner's Manual may be incorrect as Ford has the right to make changes to the vehicle after publication of the manual." That is NOT a reasonable answer. I cannot get a yes/no answer from Ford!

Our 2013 Edge is dead at destination more often than not. Anyone else have this issue?

Anyone towing a 2015 Ford Edge?

I just came from the local Ford dealer who has a bunch of 2015 left overs and showed me a ford publication stating the v6 3.5 is flat towable with same conditions as 2014.

I never saw a definitive answer to the OP's original post. Anyone out there actually flat towing a 2015 Edge? We had gone there to look for used ones and they may ha e 2013 coming in but with Presidents day, they were pretty motivated to sell me a 2015 left over. But when I looked in Motorhome's 2015 dinghy guide, ANY EDGE model is conspicuously absent! I told them several times it wasn't towable and they maintained it was, then produced a Ford publication for towing of all models and it clearly listed the Edge.

Maybe they were too late to the game to make it into the dinghy guide?

Anyone have real life experience on this one?

I found this under 2015 Edge owners manual online: (page 232)

Follow these guidelines if you have a need
for recreational (RV) towing. An example
of recreational towing would be towing
your vehicle behind a motorhome. We
designed these guidelines to prevent
damage to your transmission.
You can tow your 2.7L EcoBoost or 3.5L
(6F50 or 6F55) equipped vehicle with all
four wheels on the ground.
If you tow your vehicle with all four wheels
on the ground:
• Tow only in the forward direction.
• Release the parking brake.
Vehicles with Keyless Start
1. Start the vehicle by pressing the brake
pedal, and then pressing the keyless
start button until the vehicle starts.
2. Press the brake pedal and shift the
gearshift into neutral (N).
3. Turn the vehicle off by pressing the
keyless start button once.
4. Disconnect the negative (black) cable
from the battery. You need the door
key to lock and unlock doors when the
battery cable is disconnected. See
Changing the 12V Battery (page 269).
Note: The anti-theft system does not work
until you reconnect the battery cable.
Start the engine within 15 minutes of
reconnecting the battery cable.
Vehicles with an Ignition Key
1. Start the vehicle by pressing the brake
pedal, and then turning the ignition key
until the vehicle starts.
2. Press the brake pedal and shift the
transmission into neutral (N).
3. Turn the vehicle off by turning the
ignition key past the accessory position.
The key position is between the
accessory and off positions. See
Ignition Switch (page 150).
4. Disconnect the negative (black) cable
from the battery. See Changing the
12V Battery (page 269).
Note: The anti-theft system does not work
until you reconnect the battery cable.
Start the engine within 15 minutes of
reconnecting the battery cable.
All Vehicles
• Do not exceed 65 mph (105 km/h).
• Start the engine and allow it to run for
five minutes at the beginning of each
day and every six hours thereafter. With
the engine running and your foot on the
brake, shift into drive (D) and then into
reverse (R) before shifting back into
neutral (N).
Front-wheel Drive Vehicles
Alternatively, you can tow your front-wheel
drive vehicle with the front wheels off the
ground by using a tow dolly, or with all four
wheels off the ground using a vehicle
transport trailer. If you are using a tow
dolly, follow the instructions specified by
the equipment provider.
All-wheel Drive Vehicles
Alternatively, you can tow your all-wheel
drive vehicle with all four wheels off the
ground using a vehicle transport trailer. Do
not tow your all-wheel drive vehicle with
the front wheels off the ground (by using
a tow dolly) and the rear wheels on the
ground. This causes damage to your
all-wheel drive system. If you are using a
vehicle transport trailer, follow the
instruction specified by the equipment
provider.

I have been shopping for a 2016 Lincoln MKX which as you know has a similar drive train as the Edge. Even though the owners manual and other Ford publications say that it is towable, I was told by my dealer that the Eco-Boost version is NOT towable. This is in direct contradiction to the printed material and is very confusing. Different dealers say different things. I wish someone at the factory would clarify this issue once and for all, but for now I have no choice but to forget about buying the Lincoln that I want.

We had the same problem.

We added a "Toad Charge" which solved the problem. Easy to install yourself is a couple of hours.

http://www.lslproducts.net/ToadChargePage.html

There should also be power available on one of the connections on your hitch plug on the rear of your coach and if you choose you can adapt that to keep your battery charged

You can also pull fuses for the display and dash light but you will have to re-pair your phones and reset pre-programmed radio stations.

Charge line for sure. Your battery may be very marginal by now. The battery on my 2012 was replaced in under three years.

Do not use an Invisibrake with diodes on the Edge. Feedback can cause the brakes to lock up and not release.

We got a 2015 Edge Sport last fall and the owner's manual clearly states it is flat towable. Since we tow our 2014 F150 I decided not to mess with rigging the Edge for towing.

After speaking to a fellow towing his 2015 Edge at an RV park in San Antonio, I have definitely decided not to plan on ever towing the Edge. His description of all the steps he has to go thru to tow it was just too complicated. My F150 is really simple.
