2015 Tacoma FlatTowing

Looking for help on preparing a 2015 Toyota Tacoma for flat towing. I understand Toyota doesn't recommend flat towing. I have contacted Drive Shaft King for a drive shaft disconnect.

I don't know if you turn the key on and then use a battery disconnect. Looking for info from people who tow a Tacoma.

Any help would be appreciated

As to the steering interlock issue try this:

1) Insert key in ignition
2) Turn key to ON
3) Turn key to OFF, DO NOT REMOVE KEY
4) Steering interlock should be unlocked and will remain that way until the key is removed from the ignition. Test by turning steering wheel 180 degrees each way.

NO, the ignition is turned off so there is no electrical draw. No need for a battery disconnect.

You haven't said what you are planning to use for a supplemental braking system ? Some systems require power feed. If you install a battery disconnect, you will need to feed 12v power from Motorhome.

Also check your total combined weight (tow vehicle PLUS the Tacoma). You can't exceed this value either legally or SAFELY.

He should be ok. Tacoma is just at 4000# 2wd and 4200# 4wd for the Double cab. Access cab is a bit lighter. Unless he's over on his GVWR he should be good on the combined.

I tow a Tacoma and had a complete set of instructions that came with the dive shaft disconnect. Follow the instructions and use it for a check sheet the first few times towing and you will be fine. I did have a non chipped key cut that I use while towing. That way you do not have a ring of keys swinging that can turn the ignition switch. Also you can lock the truck and not worry about anyone stealing it as the dummy key won't start the truck.

The Tacoma makes a great toad, I have about 40,000 miles towing mine.

Thinking about making the leap to a 2016 Tacoma. Is yours 4wd?
