2016 Cadillac

Is a 2016 Cadillac SRX towable behind my Thor Hurricane 29M? I get conflicting info...

Yes it can be towed but requires some work on your part. It's all explained here.

scroll down to the Cadillac section in the guide

What does your owners manual say under recreational towing? What is the towing capacity of your motorhome? That’s all you need.

I got an 8000 Lb hitch, and the vehicle is rated at 4700 lbs. I was just worried because of the FWD/AWD part ... But the MOTORHOME MAGAZINE folks say, it will work as long as you stop every 4 to 5 hours and crank the car and let the tranny "turn over". And let the engine run 3 minutes after you unhook...

You have an 8,000# lb hitch, but your MH isn't rated to tow anywhere near that amount unless you're thousands of pound under your GVWR. It looks like, depending on which model you have, there is a 4,000# or 5,000# difference between GVWR and GCWR.

YEP, I understand all that. Mine is 190 inch wheel base, GVWR is 18,000 LBS. FORD says the F53 Chassis is rated to tow 7000 lbs maximum trailer weight at the 16000 lb GVWR, mine is 18000 GVWR and I'm towing 4 down (not trailering). So I figure I'm good at 4500 pounds of Cadillac with a 538 Rear End ...THANKS

Oh, I thought the 18,000# chassis had a 4.30 rear end, and had the same GCWR as the 16,000# chassis (23,000#).

I just this morning got the call back from FORD Tech Service, and you are right on, it is a 4.30 Gear, and 5000Lb is the limit. He told me that I would be well below the limit. I appreciate the help, I follow several "forums" and it's always wise to check everything 2, 3, or 4 times, it seems there are a lot of varying opinions out there. Have a GREAT day!

Forget all the e-engineers and websites that know it all. Only go by what GM says you can do. That stopping every so many hours to do this and that will eventually hack you.

Well, we got her all set up! I went with the BX1690 Blue Ox Base Plate, the DEMCO/SMI Stay-in-Play Brake system and the BX7365 Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. We got it all wired up to the lights, the diode's and all, just love the system, looks like we made the right decision! Mine didn't come with a vinyl cover for the tow bar in storage, nor the vinyl plugs when the Attachment tabs are stowed, had to order them from e-trailer. All is well can't hardly feel the caddie back there, all we got to do now is getting her broke in, which will commence mid October with a trip to Destin!

Grubbs,

Good Show. We have a 2015 SRX and it is also flat towable, but we sometimes tow a Chev Equinox which is basically the same car downgraded 5-10 levels.

Enjoy Destin. BEAUTIFUL place.

Tim

I have a 2016 that we're thinking of using. Did you have to do any chopping or cutting to the front of the SRX to attach the tow bars?
Thank You

I cannot say...I did not do the install, I purchased the Blue Ox parts and the DEMCO Stay-in-Play, but after viewing the "install" on e-trailer, I decided I better trust the professional guys to tear into the front end of the Cadillac...They did a excellent job, took about 2 days and I figure (from what the parts cost) I paid them about $1000.00, which puts me about $1000.00 less than the dealer's wanted....Their LABOR was priced at $65 an hour for 12 hours and that included "standard tow vehicle wiring" installing the lights and the 4 diode's for the lights.
