Just when you think its safe to go back into the water up comes the issue of the tow vehicle. Uhh.
I must say if motor homes are difficult to pick, the toad is a close second. And that is not to mention the base plate, tow bar and braking system but we will get to that later
I will be mostly full timing (9 or 10 months a year) and primarily out west if I can help it. I have two (2) golden retrievers (5 and 3) as passengers
The rig is gas and 35 feet long on a F-53 24,000 (maybe 26,000) chassis with a limit of 6,000 or 4000 depending on which chassis I can get. The hitch is rated at the usual 5000.
Was looking at the Chevy Spark initially but it is a single door. The Jeep wrangler is nice but I don’t like the open back for the dogs (the 2 door is too heavy). I would like to stay under 3500lbs. I am looking at the 2016 or 2017 Jeep Compass 4x4 altitude trim with the manual transmission permitting me to tow all four down.
The manual says the key must be in the AC position and the stick in natural to tow. It doesn’t specify any limitations on speed or miles. Wondering whether on AC the battery will drain? What about the odometer will it rack up miles? Why AC? I haven’t driven one yet but maybe it is because the wheel locks if left in the off position.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the 2016 or 2017 Jeep Compass with the altitude trim being used as a toad? Thanks in advance for any helpful comments
