2018/19 Jeep Wrangler JL Toad Wiring Kits Recommendations

We have a Tiffin coach on order and plan to use a 2018/19 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited not yet purchased as a Toad.

What are the recommended wiring kits for these model years? Doing some research these models years canít see to use older wiring kits.

Thanks for any advise.

Well KJR,
If you did just a small search on here, You'd find plenty of threads already going about folks that are in your boat. I don't follow all of them but, at the last time I ready any, which wasn't very long ago, maybe a few days, at present, there are NO WIRING HARNESS'S for the JL version Jeep Wrangler, to utilize the factory tail lights as toad lights. If I also recall, Jeep/Mopar is working on one.

If it were me, I wouldn't wait and pay what they're gonna want for those harness's. I've already come up with a plan for that. Our Jeep, a '15 JKUR, utilizes the Hopkins wiring harness for the lights but, it's a few years old. But, our Jeep also carries two bicycles which, almost totally block the Jeeps tail lights. So, Plan A. I'm thinking of installing some nice looking, LED, stop/turn/tail lights "Into" the vertical rear pillars of the hard top to be "toad" lights.

Now, these won't be atrocious looking. They'll be slim or, smaller but, still have full-on functionality of a stop/turn/tail light only, they'll be above the blocked view of the standard Jeep tail lights when the bikes are on the back.

And, doing it that way, you won't need to wait for Jeep to get off their behind and develop a high-cost harness. Your choice.
Scott

I used the CoolTech JL Tow Harness Kit and it is working great. Here are a few links:

Mopar has a flat tow harness available. Complete but takes a bit to install. Hopkins is reporting that they will have a plug and play type kit out June/July.

I found two kits at eTrailer that are supposed to work on 2018/19 JLs. Is the 2019 wiring changed from 2018?

These kits use diodes spliced into the taillight wiring.

Roadmaster
If you list all videos there is a 2018 JL installation using this kit
https://www.etrailer.com/Tow-Bar-Wir...leID=201969126

Demco

ETrailer only shows a video using a 2018 JL. I checked the Demco website and canít find this diode kit listed.

I looked at this Mopar part and the part is $450 (3rd party sites are a little cheaper), but after downloading the instructions, which are poorly written with little text and confusing drawings, it appaears you have to take the Jeep completely apart to install. Very intimidating.

Thanks, looks promising compared to the Mopar part.

Question for you Jeep owners. My understanding is when you tow the keys are out of the ignition. With the keys out and you press the brake pedal do the stop lights come on?

One of the selling points of the Cool Tech wiring kit it over comes the scenario when the brakes applied and a turn signal is on.

I had the 18 jeep and had the dealer install the blue ox base plate and wiring
for the brake and signal lights using a 4 wire system like a boat trailer. It worked fine. I have just traded the jeep of for a Ford Ranger the jeep had too
many problems. It was fine towing just a not a something I wanted to drive every day. For towing just put the transfer case in N and the shifter in Park and
lock it and take the keys with you. I think that's it.

Well Gang,
As stated by my last post in this thread, at that time, I was under the impression there were no aftermarket harness's for flat towing a JL. But, as anyone can see and read here, there ARE apparently multiple harness's available. Learn something every day. Now, what was it I learned yesterday???

Mopar 82215382

I just bought my Jeep Rubicon JLU last Monday & the dealership installed the Mopar RV wiring harness. Has anyone actually used it? The umbilical connection at the bumper looks week.

That's probably the same plastic connector that was on the Mopar harness for my 2012 JK. I cut the connectors off and replaced them with a standard six wire Hopkins trailer plug and connector. They are metal and much more durable.
