4 down towing advice, 2001 Dodge 1500 2WD automatic, yes or no??

Is this truck towable 4 down? I am thinking of setting it up for occasional towing when I need extra carrying space. Also looking for a used tow plate for it. THANKS

I only have a 2002 Dingy Towing Guide, the only Dodge trucks that are towable are 4WD.

You could look at installing a Remco driveshaft disconnect, I've never used one but they do make them for a variety of 2 WD vehicles.

Most 2-wheel/rear-wheel drive vehicles are not towable [4-down], neither with automatic nor std trannies. Nearly all trannies require fluid flow during towing and the OEM pump is driven by the engine end, not the drive shaft end. For these vehicles, you need either a 12v aux fluid pump installed, or a drive-shaft disconnect. Not all 4-wheel drive vehicles are towable unless they have a transfer case with a true neutral position. Many front-wheel drive vehicles have transaxles and are towable but not all, and in many cased, if they are towable, they require special handling [eg, start/run engine every 500 miles, or don't exceed 65MPH, etc].

You can get the driveline disconnect from here: http://www.swdriveline.com/

We recently had one installed on our 2013 Escalade 2WD. Works great and makes it towable.

Looking for ideas of cars for towing....4 down....before I purchase another car in the next year or so. Do not want a CRV....what Jeeps will work? I'm used to an Outback and would like to stay with a small SUV. Keep getting different answers fro dealers or the old "I think that...." Thanks all.
