$6000 to set up toad

As stated earlier never have your RV dealer install the necessary road equipment. We used a truck company that specializes in trailers/ towing installs. Including parts and labor was around $3400.00

I just did my 2014 Lincoln MKX, using Blue Ox and RVI Brake Systems Total all in was $4,000
And thAt had a learning curve in it (it was their first, RVI)
Road master may be higher but certainly not $2k

Yup, sounds high. I don’t think anything over $4,000 is close to reasonable. Wiring for lights and install of base plate is really all you need. Buy the tow bar and blue ox on line to save more. That should get you to $3,000 to $3,500. We used Hecht Triailer for the base plate and wiring for our Jeep.

6,000 too much

I have a slightly used Roadmaster and Invisibrake for sale. That would save you a bunch. Your quote is high.

Is this the going price?
I installed blue ox base plate myself following youtube instructions on 2014 Honda CRV.. Parts cost $450.
Youtube also has instructions & part Number for the taillight wiring.

Braking system will be aprox $1200. You should shop for quotes.

Toads

I purchased a 2017 Chevy Cruze, 6-speed manual transmission. I purchased the base plate and tow bar from Blue Ox, had my local garage set everything up and my total cost was about $2000 for everything. $6,000 is ridiculous! I would try another company. And, most importantly, if you have a local garage you’ve dealt with, just buy the components and have them install the system. Just like marine craft, once the word “RV” comes up, prices seem to double or worse! I try to stay away from the National RV dealers. They will normally be much higher!

Consider doing your own research and doing some of your tow setup your self.
You will benefit by being able to maintain later yourself.

Buy your own tow bar, no installation needed.

Buy your own tow brake. With many types, no installation needed, other than than some of the breakaway switch mounting.

You should decide what type of brake light activation you want.

A much better choice would be to find a good trailer hitch shops to use to mount your baseplate. This is their normal scope of work.

Not only will you save costs, the quality of work will be much better.

Way too much. I spent the following for my Saturn Vue:
$335 base plate
$400 labor to install base plate (not easy for this car)
$200 for L&M for toad lighting
$870 Blue Ox Alpha tow bar (6500 lb capacity) includes safety cables
$1200 for RVi brake (permanent brakes are less expensive but costs for labor must be added)
$85 coiled cable
$2990 YOTAL

add $100 if you need to add a drop receiver

Hope this helps
