$6,000 to set up toad

I have been given a price of nearly $6,000 for all the fixings necessary to tow a Honda CR-V by an RV dealer. This includes a Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar and base plate, Roadmaster Invisibrake braking system, and charge line with wired lights. All new install.

Is this the going price?

They must have a "Boat" or RV Payment due..
That sounds outrageous...
Or maybe it's just me..

Sounds like to me they are going to profit about $3000. I was told a long time a go to NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER go back to any dealer unless it was warranty work that I had no out of pocket.
Had a quote from a local trailer hitch installer for my 2016 Dodge Caravan using the Blue Ox items of $3200.

It seems a little high, but if that includes everything, it might not be too outrageous. Definitely get a quote from another RV place.

I've probably got about $3000 to $4000 in my RAV4 for the towing setup which includes a braking system, tow base plate, tow bar, complete wiring harness and diode system for the lights, in-coach brake system indicator (wireless), toad battery charger (you will need it!). My RAV4 also requires a transmission lube pump since it is an automatic. The CRV should not require that. The labor to install everything is about 6 to 8 hours ++depending on how much disassembly and fitting is required for the base plate. Usually the front bumper has to come off and some modifications such as trimming or cutting is required. A permanently installed (fixed) braking system also requires a lot of labor. Hopefully, they gave you a good estimate and breakdown of all the parts and labor. It would be a lot easier to analyze with a list of what they plan to install.

I purchased my Ready Brute tow bar with brake system, base plate, and all the light equipment for less the $2,000. Professionally installed at a hitch shop for $450.

Not at all, I had a Range Rover set up with air force one on the car and coach blue ox tow bar and base installed well. They wired the setup so the brake and signal lights run straight off the coach power. All that was around 3k.

$6,000 to set up toad

In July I had an Equinox set up for towing. Tow bar, baseplate, Air Force one braking system and wiring harness cost $4000. The price includes labor.

A local shop did out set up. Blue Ox, AF1 and base plate cost under $2000.00, and less than a thousand to install along with a 12v line to the battery.

I think they're a bit high.

I just had a quote for a complete set up, BlueOx tow bar/Base Plate, SMI Braking System, installed with lighting hookup, umbilical cord, ready to plug in and tow by a local shop that I've dealt with for years and know they do excellent work. All in with 12% sales tax, out the door, 4200 Canadian. So take 30% off that and you have a fair market US price.

For us, the M&G braking system including lights, breakaway, and labor was $1300. The Roadmaster towbar system was around $1200, and I did installation myself. If you add $500 for shop install on towbar system, then $3000 is in the ball park.

Good luck on your quest.

For that money you can buy a small flatbed trailer amd save the wear and tear on the towed vehicle. At 6 you can buy a small enclosed car hauler. Just something to think about.

I paid $2500 for the install excluding the tow bar, but included the adapters for the tow bar as my tow bar was Demco and the base plate Blue Ox. The base plate, AFI Braking system, lights, and charge line were included,
