7 pin to 6 pin wiring?

Alright I'm getting ready to set up my pickup to flat tow. I just have a question about the 7pin to 6pin wiring connection. My toad doesn't require it to be charged by motorhome nor will it require the electric brake connection. So my question is do I just wire all 6 pins up that came in the kit as they won't be connected on the backside or just tape the black and blue up and leave them in the boot? Greatly appreciate any help before I call Roadmaster who made the kit. Brad

Ok , if you get all the lights working properly , and your not in need of the wires , tape them up .
But really as long as they are isolated ( unable to cause a short ) you can do it either way.

Black and blue wires should be back up lights and trailer brakes.

I would not wire them into the connector. I dont think you will ever need them.

Leave them out.....they can later cause confusion (three years from now when you forget what you wired) and a possible problem if the connection gets wet.

Hmf23-

Roadmaster supplies two connectors, as far as I know: one for the toad, and one for the 7-pin to 6-pin "umbilical" cable. I expect you're not asking about the six-pin connector on the truck, as there are no wires to attach to the brake controller and charge line pins.

Call me contrary. I suggest wiring all the wires in the 7-pin to 6-pin "umbilical" cable to their correct pins.

1) It's only a little "extra" work
2) Loose wires in a connector are an invitation to later odd wiring behavior (for example, imagine an ignition-powered 12V charge line "accidentally" shorting to ground inside a 6-pin connector)
3) You may later need a charge line (different toad, or your truck battery can't keep its charge)
4) You won't have to remember you did something "non-standard"

My experience is that the inside of hitch/cable connectors contain precious little room for the wires that are supposed to be there. It's actually easier to terminate them all, than to find room to insulate and double them back inside the connector. If you cut them off, to save the room, well... no putting them back later, without having to shorten all the wires.

Terminate them all.
