Just found out after 8 years that on my Mini Cooper if I turn the key on then OFF, and leave the key in the ignition that my steering wheel doesn't lock up. Before I would turn the ignition to the ON position to keep the steering wheel from locking while I tow. Unfortunately that drains the battery etc. deSanford

If it does lock then it will only smoke the tires for a few miles.

Yes we tow the Mini Cooper "S" four down for the last 8 years. It is a GREAT tow car as with it's light weight NO additional braking is required by law when towing (as far as I know). deSanford PS it tracks like a "hound dog". Mike Canter as long as the key doesn't fall out of the ignition the steering wheel will turn while being towed behind the MH.

I've read you can leave the key in the off position on the Mini but have not done so. I'm a bit like Mike Canter and worry about the key bouncing or ?? and locking the steering. I haven't had a battery problem with my Mini (can't say that about the CRV!). I do make sure the radio and heater are turned off.

NO "bouncing" key problems here. Actually it is a precision German fit. deSanford
