Sub: Advance Auto Parts warranties

FYI for those that might not know--

Took my Lifetime Warranted brake pads off my toad back to Advance Auto Parts to get replacement and was informed that since I could not find my receipt that I would have to (remember) go back to the AA store that I purchased them from because there stores do not share purchase records.

Wow-what an excuse in this day and time of information overabundance.

FYI- don't know about all the other parts suppliers, but all Autozone sales (according to the sales clerk) are recorded by your phone number and this info is available to all stores in all 48 states and therefore you don't have to provide receipt for warranties.

Won't be going back to Advance at least until their system is improved.

Not unusual to make the burden of proof of purchase the customers responsibility.

Only problem with that is most reciepts won't last more than 3 months even out of the sun.The ink will slowly be gone and make it a blank piece of paper,so I would also like to see better technology.

Did you talk to the manager? I think you can press this a little harder, threaten to call the customer service department at corporate hq.

As stated, those receipts fade after a short period of time.

This is a good reason to scan and store all reciepts of costly products and products with "lifetime" warranties. Easy to find and doen't take up space.

I know that this is true for AutoZone. Stacey's alternator on the Jeep pooped out on our way up to Albuqueque on Wednesday night. They looked up her original purchase (from NC) on their computer. It was listed under her old cell phone number. Luckily she had gotten a lifetime warranty... so the alternator was free ... we changed the alternator out right in front of the store. We tend to keep our vehicles for a long time so a lifetime warranty on certain parts is a handy thing for us to have.
