Our pt Cruiser vert works great for us. Hook it up, put key in 1st position, trans in neutral and GO. Of course it's a 5 speed but we don't mind shifting gears.

We tow a 2012 Chevy Captiva, which is a Vue clone and like it a lot.

Toads
Best thing to do is use the Motor Home Dingy report because it is specific by year. What applies for one year my not apply to other years. If manual transmissions don't bother you, your options are greater. Good luck!

PT Cruiser's were made in Mexico! Our Chevy Equinox, which makes a great tow vehicle was made in Canada, but some are now made in Tenn.!

What do you call "American made"?
In the 1980's WA state passed a law that required a certain % of the vehicle to be made in the US. We could no longer buy Dodge vans (made in Canada), but instead had to buy Toyota pickups (made in the US). That law lasted two years.
Honda makes more vehicles in the US than they import.

We still like our 2011 Ford Edge for towing. Simple process to ready it for towing.

There Is the new Jeep Renegage to look at too, as long as it has the appropriate transfer case. I did a quick look at the Jeep site, and coundn't tell. I would suggest downloading the manual which would have the step by step on the process to put into tow mode (I have a weak connection, so couldn't get to it) but you can find it under "jeep ownership" or something like that on the website.
Looks like it weighs about 3600 pounds. It is on the larger Fiat 500 platform, but as far as I know it is US made, and looks to be mid-uppers $20s.
Regards,

The Renegade is NOT flat towable. There have been several threads on this.
