Any problems towing a Trailex CT-7541

Hello fellow travelers,
We would like to trailer tow our 911, to Monterrey CA next year for car week.

Has anyone here had any experience towing the Trailex CT-7541 behind their MC? Total weight will be 4,400#. That will leave me with a comfortable safety margin.

Besides the fueling and plotzing, what issues have others had? I am interested in hearing about your experiences.

Please keep in mind I am interested in only two axle open car carriers that weight around 800#

I don’t have a 911 anymore nor own a Trailex trailer but suggest you post your question in the Rennlist racing forum. Many 911 racers there and some have Taillexs

Trailex calls the 7541 their 911 trailer. I picked up my 7541 at their factory last year, it is a very nice trailer. nicely designed and built of 6061 extrusions, they own an extrusion plant. Even the fenders are made of extruded material. I have towed my TR4 on it several times. I intend to used it to transport a Crosstrek when I buy one.

Trailex CT-7541

Trailex CT-7541 Has a weight capacity if 4100 lbs. if you are towing 4400 lbs you will need the CT-8045 which has capacity of 4500 lbs, trailer weight of 910 lbs.

The 4100 lbs refers to the weight the trailer will carry. Not the total weight of trailer plus cargo. I own one, it is built very well.

The only question is whether the loaded trailer will be under the Adventurer's tow rating, which is probably 5000 lbs (receiver limit and maybe GCWR limit as well).

The empty weight of the #7541 is 895 lbs and the 4100 is the max load capacity. The 911 is probably less than 4100 lbs, so maybe the combined weight is under 5000. Weight the 911 to be sure and check the ratings on your coach to be sure it is adequate.

I like the trailer as well. Do you have the electric or surge brakes. What would determine which one to choose? Is one better than other?

Thanks

Ron

Also be aware of the tongue weight. For a 5000# load it will need to be between 500# - 750# for stable towing. Most class A gas'r hitches are rated for 500#.

I went with the electric brakes, no other reason than I am familiar with them, have them on my other trailer. I have no experience with surge brakes.

Not familiar with the OP’s MH but assume there are no issues wiring in a brake controller, such as one of the Prodigy units. Just plugging into the seven pin connector does not provide a signal to the trailer’s brakes. Not trying to insult anyone’s intelligence, just know this mistake has been made before.
