Anyone tow a Cadillac CTS wagon or MKX?

Considering this CTS car for a toad, but can not find any info on flat towing it.
Also considering the Lincoln MKX, but have heard of problems towing the 2012 Edge and the Lincoln may be the same. Any info appreciated.

According to Remco, the Cadillac is NOT towable -- except on a trailer, the Lincoln MKX can be towed 4 down without modification.

Haven't heard of any 2012 Edge problems either. Maybe you are thinking of the Escape, which does have an issue?

I talked with a guy who towed an edge...his problem was makng sure the battery didn't drain because of the push button start button. Once the battery went dead he couldn't open the electric door locks...etc.

Thanks for the replies. Wife says maybe it was the Escape she read about and not the Edge. I think my next step would be to check with a transmission shop to see if the 2012 MKX has the exact transmission as the Edge, or try contacting an engineer at Ford/ Lincoln.

Thanks,

Gene

Check the owner's manual. If it's OK with the manufacturer it will say so in the manual. If they say no, it may still work but they won't warranty it. Mazda, for example, uses the same transmissions as Ford in some vehicles but won't OK flat towing on anything.

I understood the Caddy CTS wasn't towable, and then I spoke with a fellow towing one this summer. He spoke of lifting the bellows on the shifter lever and pushing something? He was super pleased with it.

Buy a US car and let's get our North American economy looked after. And no BS about where your car is assembled; consider where the profits go!

I tow a 2012 Ford Explorer and it works perfectly. I installed a battery maintainer device from Texas to counteract the Brake Buddy's bad habit of killing the Ford's battery on long drives. Haven't been on a long drive since so the test of time is still to come.

I owned a 2010 SRX and that's the instruction for towing that Cadillac model. I currently own a 2012 Lincoln MKX but I haven't looked at towing it. Guess I need to check the manual.

This is from the 2012 Lincoln MKX Owner's Manual...

RECREATIONAL TOWING

Follow these guidelines for your specific powertrain combination to tow
your vehicle for personal travel (such as behind a motor home or a
truck).

Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to
prevent exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle. Refer to the Climate
Controls chapter for more information.

In case of a roadside emergency with a disabled vehicle, please refer to
Wrecker towing in the Roadside Emergencies chapter.
These guidelines are designed to prevent damage to your vehicle after it
is hooked-up to the RV or tow dolly.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles can be towed with all four wheels
on the ground or with the front wheels off the ground by using a tow
dolly. If you are using a tow dolly follow the instructions specified by the
equipment provider. If you are towing with all four wheels on the ground,
refer to the towing instructions below.

All-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles can be towed with all four wheels on
the ground or with all four wheels off the ground using a vehicle
transport trailer. Do not tow your AWD vehicle with the front
wheels off the ground (by using a tow dolly) and the rear wheels
on the ground; this will cause damage to your AWD system. If you
are using a vehicle transport trailer, follow the instruction specified by
the equipment provider. If you are towing with all four wheels on the
ground, refer to the towing instructions below.

If you tow your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground, follow these
instructions:
• Tow only in the forward direction.
• Release the parking brake.
• Place the transmission shift lever in N (Neutral).
• Place the ignition in the accessory position (refer to Starting in the
Driving chapter).
• Do not exceed 65 mph (105 km/h)
• Start the engine and allow it to run for five minutes at the beginning
of each day and at each fuel
