i've been thinking of trading for a "Cruze", but after this problem, i guess i won't be able to use it if you can't tow it.

cruze towing

The problem as it has been explained to me is that because of the aerodynamic design there isn't enough air flow getting to the cooler when the car is behind a big box. GM engineers are looking into solutions.

Just had my second call from the District Specialist. He did not know anything yet but said he would call again tomorrow with or without info. He wanted to let me know that I wasn't forgotten.
I told him we can not accept the dolly option and told him that many other RV'ers felt the same since we all bought the Cruze in good faith that it could be flat towed. He said the are still discussing the trade option for another GM vehicle that could be flat towed. He also has someone checking on the Remco issue.
I offered to email him the picture that someone placed on a forum of a Cruze at a Trade Show with the letters in bold across the windshield "I CAN BE FLAT TOWED" but he declined my offer...oh well.
Expecting another call tomorrow aroun 2p (AZ time) so I will keep you posted.
Please if anyone gets some info please post maybe it will help us all.

Isn't the cooler somewhat non-functional when the engine is off and fluid isn't being circulated through it? This just reinforces my belief that the Remco pump would resolve the issue by moving fluid through the cooler when it is needed.

I agree, GM is grabbing at straws! It is a design flaw, why in the world didn't they have some Saturn engineers in on the design. Remco told me it would be 60-90 days of testing before they tell us anything. Then another problem comes into being: lets say Remco trans lube passes the tests, GM accepts the product, what about the warranty on the transmission? They just sent us all letters saying if you flat tow, warranty is null and void, do they send us another letter saying, if you install a Remco the warranty is back on?
And what car they have would work for flat towing? I don't want to tow a boxy suv, and the Buick LaCrosse would cost another $10,000. to buy, they aren't going to swap even steven. What a mess.

As I understand from another post last September from a GM transmission engineer there is a pump in the unit to move fluid but if you can't cool it the fluid gets hot and there goes the transmission.
I sent a letter and also in talking with GM suggested that they work with REMCO to get a system out there through the Chevy dealers. GM has the resources that REMCO doesn't plus the GM people can ok the installation. There is a warranty issue here but it seems to me to be cheaper than other options for GM>

It they take it back. A HHR can be pulled 4 down with a automatic and just one fuse to pull.

This may be the last year for it to be built. They start at $18,720 MSRP.

The District Speciaalist called again today and stated that GM has contacted the dealership and they are discussing the trade option for the Equinox. So we will see tomorrow.

Yep. Me too. GM is really stepping up to the plate. A real "class act".
We are going to check out the Malibu on Saturday. Also looking at the Ford Fusion.

FYI, the Ford Fusion may have the same 6F35 transmission as the Escape (see page 325 of the Fusion owners' manual). We've towed our 2011 Escape 3000 miles now with no problems. We have heard 2 reports of 2011's burning up transmissions. What we don't know is whether or not the fluid levels were set as prescribed in the manual. On the FMCA forum one Fusion owner reported a burned out transmission.

Well, I certainly do not want to get into that situation again. I will keep that in mind and try to get some more research on that.

Cruze problems

Well, got to respond again, firefox crashed. I just got a call from the GM rep whom I been dealing with. He said GM offers a tow dolly, I said no. He said GM doesn't recommend Remco, they don't have one for a Cruze, I said I know, they told me it would be 60-90 days of testing one and they will let me know by then, they were caught flat footed because GM said the Cruze was towable 4 wheels down, why make one when you don't need to? He said well I could wait until we hear from Remco, I said I heard that some were offered a differant car. He said he would be calling his superior this morning and would be getting back to me.
This is nuts, some are offered nothing, some a tow dolly, some asked for a differant car and they said no, and some are getting another car.
Tha saga goes on, they might make a TV series about this when the dust settles!
