Flat towing a jetta.

A year and a half ago I bought a 2011 Jetta TDI 6speed manual trans.. The lead mechanic told the service manager you can tow manual trans but not the automatic.
I have over 2500 miles towing it with no problem. However if you are towing for more then 2 hours, disconnect the positive battery cable, or you will have a dead battery. Also if you don't your doors will lock when you start moving. If this should happen take your key and pop the cover on the right side of the door handle off (notch on bottom) and there is a key hole. If you have a proximity start like mine.
Hope this helps,
Al Edwards

Al,
Thank you for the great information. By disconnecting the battery does it also effect the speedometer?

Regards

Chuck

Al,

It sounds like your Jetta has the kessy keyless system? If so, what is your procedure for unlocking the steering column? Enter car, push button to turn electronics on (not engine), then cut the battery power?
