I've had the NSA elite tow bar for 4 years. Like it. I did have a bad experience with the brake cable this winter. Temps were below zero and while driving down the interstate, the cable froze within the conduit/sheathing, effectively locking the brakes up.. Kind of horrifying really. Was off to side of the highway and had to disconnect the cable from the brake pedal. Also had to wait for the brakes to cool before they would allow car to roll. Moisture must have gotten into the conduit and froze. Called NSA and they stated that they have not had this problem since they began using the white nylon front anchor years ago which I have. I decided I will disconnect the
Cable every winter.

I hadn't had that problem and have towed in sub freezing weather. Might try some white grease on front of the cable sheath.

Another vote for the ReadyBrake elite. Never had a problem in all the miles we've towed.

I have been using the Ready Brute system for 2 years, works on the laws of physics. I have not had any issues we pull a 07 chev malibu. I installed a Towdaddy in the truck of the car to control the lights we don't have to pull a fuse just put it neutral and go.

Nice vid... cable is to tight though, notice when turning it will activate the toad brakes via cable guides. Thats why having 2 indicator lights is worth having. One light for the towbar surge lever and the other for the toad brakes.

Person that posted video on other forum claims to have made adjustments to the cable since making video. Mine has a SS turnbuckle in the cable for easy adjustment. I also have 2 LED's to monitor brake functions.

Wonder how I would go about getting an indicator light for the toad brake system when my battery must be disconnected for towing. I have the indicator light for the tow bar actuator.

I mounted a motorcycle brake pedal switch under dash. It trips when brake pedal moves. Ran power from battery, to a fuse, to switch, to a LED light that is mounted behind cars rear view mirror. I see the LED light up when brake pedal moves in MH's rear view camera.

I tie wrapped a brake light switch against the brake pedal for the toad indication light... tapped the power from the surge lever light. No need to use the toad power.

Redridge, very creative. So you are using the same led for both the brake pedal and the readybrute actuator?
You are running a wire from the toad out to the readybrute actuator harness?
But a wire tied switch doesn't seem very reliable to me. Can you show a pic of your setup?

no, I have 2 led on my dash. 1 to indicate the surge actuator is active and another led to indicate the Jeep brakes are active. I like the jeep brakes' activate only when I step on the brakes in the MH. With the extra indication, you can calibrate the length of the readybrake cable more accurately.
I will take a pic later today and post up what Ive done.

When you disconnect and fold the tow arm, it rides 15 inches farther behind the bumper. Just wondering if this ever presents a problem?

Intuitively, this seems like the most sensible solution in that it uses a feedback loop to apply brakes when and as hard as needed. No electronics or pumps or pneumatic fittings to fail.
My one question is how does it perform on a long downgrade with the engine/exhaust brake on? Will it apply the towed brakes all the way down the hill?
