We have the Demco Excalibar (8000 lbs) that we inherited from the guy we purchased our coach from. He purchase it new in 2002. He towed a Honda Civic, and a Honda Fit and had it regularly serviced. We towed both a Honda Element, and now a GMC Canyon. We've sent it back to Demco once to be gone through.
Demco's have lifetime FREE service for basic condition, seals, inspection etc. Unlike others that charge $95.00 for service as well as shipping back to you.
Ours is now 14 years old, has been used to tow for the best part of 129,000 miles, and is showing signs of use like scratched paint, small dings and bangs, need to replace the safety cables because the vinyl protective wrap is coming apart, etc, but it is fully functional, and a breeze to use.
I've installed three Demco baseplates. Two on Honda Elements, and one on the GMC Canyon. All installations were straightforward, taking less than one hour to install the baseplate. The baseplates are reasonably priced at around $220 each if i remember correctly, and require no special adapters to hook onto the tow bar. They also aren't sticking way out in front of the bumper like some I've seen.
If and when I replace this one, I will be looking at the Excali-bar II by Demco or possibly a Roadmaster. No offense to other tow bar owners, but Google "tow bar failures" and you will see why I won't be looking to buy a Blue Ox.
